I was at JoAnn this evening, looking desperately for fabric that would work for my final project in my patternmaking class. (Due Tuesday ACK ACK ACK.) And as I was casing the bargain rack, I noticed some suiting in a verrrrrry familiar gray-green color. So I pulled out the DMC floss #646 that I always keep in my purse for just such an occasion (stop laughing), and it was a match! And I ran over to the thread rack and compared it to the Coats & Clark color Smoke, and-- it was a match! Woo! I bought all five yards they had left, so now I can finally make an Imperial officer and join the fracking 501st already!

Two slight downsides: it's 100% polyester, not a wool blend; and if I'd gone to JoAnn tomorrow instead of today, it would've been half off. But it was only $5/yard anyway, so I'm not too bothered about it. (I was way more bothered by the cutting table lady, who just kept emphasizing that it would be half off if I came back tomorrow. Yes, thank you, I got that, but I don't have time to come back tomorrow. I'm willing to pay you MORE today, so just cut me the damn fabric already. Then she asked, "Did you not read your flyer?" I wanted to climb over the cutting counter and attack her with her own dull scissors. GAH.)

Oh, and I did end up finding some fabric for my project, too. :)

Oh JoAnns. I worked there for years - what you said is so true! They are all old ladies completely absorbed in the JoAnn world who just assume you are too. Their customer service is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad lol. I miss it. xD

OMG. She totally sounds like the old cashier lady at the Oside Barnes&Noble who completely harasses the living fuck out of me every time she rings me up about joining the stupid club thing so I can get 10% off. LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE!

But, YAY for the 501st! Are you going to be traditional and make pants or go with a skirted version of the uniform? I think Christine has a skirt for hers.

Wow! That's great! I'm so glad that you finally tracked that fabric down. And while I'll admit I am laughing a bit at the image of you whipping out some carefully stored floss, it's laughing with you, I promise. :-)

So...any particular officer? A senior officer with just a hint of evil? Or just a middle management sort of person who's just following orders?

LOL. I hate JoAnn. I hate it so much I can't bring myself to go back there despite still having like $20 on this gift card my aunt gave me last Christmas. I refuse to buy fabric there -- if I need something cheapie to sew up the samples of the garments I've draped and drafted patterns for, I go to the scholarship store here at FIDM (if you ever come up this way again, you can't beat 50 cents a yard. stock up!) Or I just use the HORRIBLY GIANT BOLTS OF MUSLIN we get at the beginning of class. For nice fabrics I only shop online. I can't stand how suffocating JoAnn is, what with the hordes of old women and all the synthetics and crazed people chittering insanely about how great their ultra-mega sewing machine is that even cleans their toilets and makes them a cup of coffee. Barf.

If I have enough fabric, I plan to make 3 different bottoms-- pants, business-style knee-length skirt, and trashy miniskirt. Then I can be prepared for anything!

If I lived closer to LA, I would never go to JoAnn! I couldn't order online, though, and take the chance that the fabric wouldn't arrive in time or wouldn't be what I needed, so I had to find something quickly. Luckily I found a cotton shirting that is not too terrible.
