otp meme

Awhile back, there was an OTP meme going around where you listed ten pairings that you shipped hardcore, ten you couldn't stand, and ten you dabbled in. I had typed up a fair amount and was going to try to finish it, but I'm just going to release it into the wild as-is. I actually left off a bunch of ships, because I have eight zillion, because I really am a compulsive shipper, but here's what I have.

Pairings I Ship Hardcore

1. Harry/Ginny (Harry Potter)-- Ginny's been my favorite character pretty much from her first appearance at Platform 9 3/4, and CoS just cemented it. I was H/G when H/G wasn't cool, and man, we took a *lot* of abuse back in the day. Being Ron/Hermione was one thing, in that long drought between Books 4 and 5-- there was plenty of canon support for it, the Yule ball and all-- but there was next to nothing for Harry/Ginny. I had faith, though, that we'd see a lot more of Ginny, and that she was going to be hella cool. (How could she not? She was the youngest daughter of a pretty awesome family. She was always going to be kickass.) So, yeah. Love them. Love them *lots.*

2. Mulder/Scully (X-Files)-- Does it feel weird to anyone else to type that? Cause back when I was watching the show, it was just "shipper." Or MSR, if it was a label on a fic. Anyway. The show went to crap, the ship went to crap, but I was a shipper from my very first episode ("Paper Clip," with that beautiful end scene). Just the two of them, against the whole world, and the only thing they had was each other. How could you not love it?

3. John/Aeryn (Farscape)-- Epic. That's pretty much the word for it. (Sorry, Veronica/Logan. You aren't there yet, darlings.) They were always, always the only one for each other. I mean, the biggest thing between them was when there were suddenly *two* Johns. (Oh, my heart, it *hurts.*) Finding their way together, figuring out how to love each other-- just amazing, sad, beautiful, heartbreaking, wonderful.

4. Lucas/Sami (Days of our Lives)-- Oh man. Twelve years and counting, still two of the biggest screwups on daytime TV, still an incredibly compelling pair. *This* is how you make a soap couple-- give them years and years of history and friendship and betrayal and connections and loving and loathing and an accidental kid for good measure, and then mine it for all it's worth. Mind, the writers are having some trouble with that last one. I keep faith, though, that someday we'll get our Lumi for real, no stupid obstacles, no lame secrets, no screaming fights about lack of trust and betrayal, and for the love of *God* no interference by overbearing mothers. Can we do that, writers? For a month or so, even? And a would a real wedding for poor Sami be too much to ask? I think Lucas sums them up best: "But we have passion. We fight, we laugh, and we love harder than anyone I've ever known. You are the only one who makes me happy." Preach, Lucas. OH AND ALSO! I (and Will) demand the existence of Baby Girl Roberts, PRONTO.

5. Veronica/Logan (Veronica Mars)-- I flat-out refuse to call them LoVe. That's some weird alternate Veronica and Logan who are mushy and happy and destined to have dozens of fat babies. My Veronica and Logan are a generally very bad idea that's going to end in flames some day, and I love every second of them. It. Whatever. They're both very, very damaged people, although Veronica hides it better, and I just don't see them meant for a stable, lasting relationship. Not without *extensive* therapy. They're incredibly intense, though, and it's a beautiful thing to see.

6. Jack/Irina (Alias)-- You totally thought I was going to say Sarkney, didn't you? It's tough to choose, but I really do love J/I best, possibly because they actually existed as a couple. A tormented, twisted, totally fucked-up couple. Oh, and also THE HOTNESS. GOD. And the way their history shone through their every interaction-- twenty years of betrayal and hatred, made worse by the fact that they were still in love with each other and it was killing them both, these otherwise unflappable, inpenatrable people. "Passage, Part 1 and 2" where they have their little "family vacation" with Syd in India? Best ever.

7. Luke/Mara (Star Wars EU)-- The fandom, and the pairing, that brought me online ten years ago. (And incidentally, brought me many amazing friends and a husband.) He, the newly minted Jedi knight just wants to make his way in the galaxy; she, the former Emperor's Hand who just wants to kill him however she can. Perfect match, yeah? So maybe their characterizations have swung wildly from book to book, these past years. So what? We'll always have the Thrawn trilogy. And Stuff, of course.

8. Tommy/Kimberly (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers)-- Yes, yes, deeply shameful and embarassing. But they were my very first real OTP, the only reason I ever watched Power Rangers in the first place, and I loved them with my whole heart. And I hated Kim's replacement, Kat, with equal fervor. The show may say differently, but I'll always believe they found each other again.

9. Jarod/Miss Parker (The Pretender)-- He runs. She chases. They lust after each other the whole damn time and he loves her and she tries to pretend she doesn't love him and they can't be together because of everything they are. They're hardly ever in the same place at once, but the chemistry just crackles, even over the phone or through clues and notes and gifts. Maybe, just maybe, these two crazy kids can make it someday.

Pairings I Can't Freaking Stand

1. Buffy/Angel (BtVS)-- I just couldn't hold out for infinite rounds of "oh, I love you so, but we tragically cannot be together! Oh woe!" I was all right with it for a little while, and then it just became OH PLEASE SHUT UP. And then there was Angel/Cordy, and that was beautiful.

2. Sydney/Vaughn (Alias)-- Again with the OH NOES WE ARE SO DOOMED AND TRAGIC. Again, I sort of went for it in the beginning, but Season 3 turned me into a fierce hater. Thanks, TPTB, I get it: Syd and Vaughn are twu wuv forever, and Lauren is Evil Incarnate. Whatever.

3. Jack/Kate (Lost)-- Booooo-ring! Next!

4. Harry/Hermione (Harry Potter)-- No. Just no. Friends and nothing more, world without end, amen.

Pairings I Dabble In (or, more accurately, ship slightly less hardcore than the ones above)

1. Nine/Rose/Jack (Doctor Who)-- Hell, it's practically canon. They're freaking adorable.

2. Ron/Hermione (Harry Potter)-- Definitely meant to be, and fic about them can be lovely.

3. Adama/Roslin (Battlestar Galactica 2003)-- Mom and Dad at the end of the world. She better make him shave that damn stache-forward. The stache-forward is gone! I bet it's cause he knew she'd hate it.

4. Ronon/Teyla (Stargate: Atlantis)-- Grrrr argh, Ronon smash, Teyla kickass, mad hotness. Pebbles + BamBam 4EVA. Also a fan of Sheppard/Weir, but love R/T more.

5. Charlie/Claire (Lost)-- Will kill you dead from cute. Daddy!Charlie makes me a puddle of goo.

6. Batman/Wonder Woman (Justice League Unlimited)-- She's a princess from a society of immortal warriors. He's a rich kid with issues-- lots of issues. They fight crime! Oh, and have lots of hot sex and angst on the side. Natch.

7. Mal/Inara (Firefly)-- These two are such a disaster. But such a *pretty* disaster. Sad we'll never see what happens to them.

8. Devon/Danziger (Earth 2)-- So you may have noticed, I have this thing for when a guy and a girl are in charge of a group, or an expedition, or, y'know, the remnants of humanity, and they're totally the mom and dad figures to everyone, and they obviously have to get together. And so, yes. Oh sure, they fought a lot, and they had Issues with class, and wealth, and who was in charge, and whatnot; but you just knew that once Julia made Devon all better and they all got to New Pacifica, they were gonna get hitched and build a big giant house and pop out more babies. But True and Uly would *not* grow up and get married because that would just be weird.

9. Wes/Faith (Angel, mostly)-- Because "Salvage" and "Release" were the best damn things about Angel S4, and because they're so incredibly compelling. And because, in a way, they get to redeem each other.

10. Max/Logan (Dark Angel)-- Season 1 ONLY! (I feel as though I must clarify that.) But honestly, they were really adorable, and they helped each other learn how to be real people. Ah, if only S2 hadn't made me hate them both with a fiery passion.

I'm so with you on Mulder/Scully. I was so heavily into that show until it was down to only one of them, and I gave up. The aliens and monsters were fine, but I watched it for the banter between the two of them. And the bond. I liked how you said it was the two of them against the world. Good stuff.

I've watched very little of Farscape, but even from the first few episodes I could so see shipping John/Aeyrn. And Veronica/Logan is very good too.

I was ok with Buffy/Angel - but when Angel/Cordy started happening, I was so much more into it. I hated hated hated what they did with Cordy's character - it felt like such a cop out. She grew into this cool strong (but still endearingly shallow) woman, and then she went out with a whimper instead of a bang. And after having sex with Angel's son? So so wrong.

I like Kate/Sawyer better than Kate/Jack - but Claire/Charlie I love! I was upset last season when they messed with it..

And Mal/Inara? I so so loved that pairing and it makes me very sad to not know what happens. So many differences, but at the core, so much sameness. I like to think they would have found their way to each other.

And Wash/Zoe? They were already together - but I loved their relationship so much.

As far as I'm concerned, nothing after mid-season-3 on Angel ever happened. (Except for that teensy awesome bit with Wes and Faith in S4.) Groo never came back, Holtz disappeared, Cordy never ascended or whatever, and Connor stayed a baby and was adorably raised by Angel and Cordy. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Mal and Inara just had so much beautiful conflict built into their relationship. They came from (literally) completely different worlds. Neither respected what the other did for a living, yet for both of them it was their whole life. In their current situation, there was just no way they could be together. Something was going to have to give, and oooh, it would have been so great to watch.

I'm with you on Angel!!

And totally agree on Mal and Inara too - she was even for unification, which was everything Mal hated. And even though they didn't respected what the other did, they respected each other, even if it wasn't obvious - or in Mal's case, often shown poorly. It would have been so great to see more of it!

I love that you have one embarrassing pair (Tommy/Kimberly)... makes me feel better about my 58 embarrasing ones. ;) And it's funny, 'cause I only occasionally watched the original MMPR, but yet when Drew started watching Dino Thunder and I realized "OMG THAT'S TOMMY!" I kept hoping for some inkling, some mention, some clue that Kimberly was off somewhere in the wings. Yes, I am pathetic.

Jarod/Miss Parker. OMG yes!!!! I forgot about them! That was a show Ray and I watched without fail pre-LGBs. Mostly 'cause he had a HUGE crush on Miss P. ::VEG:: But yeah. They sizzle! But that show got lame, too, sadly. Not as lame as XF, but enough to stop watching before it ended. (Well, that and we had kids and 2 am feedings and no time for grown-up TV. Maybe one day I'll once again watch shows that aren't put out by Disney or Nickelodian... ::sigh::)

I also fell out of watching Pretender, and I didn't see any of the silly TV movies they made. I really want to Netflix the DVDs though and rewatch the seasons over again!

As far as I'm concerned, Kimberly was just offscreen, doing some important gymnastics work or something. *g*

TOMMY/KIMBERLY REPRESENT, YO.

Though, er . . . *eyes icon* I kinda have no shame whatsoever about my Power Rangers shipping.

[identity profile] jainamsolo.livejournal.com 2006-11-05 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
YAY OMG. I have all this fic about them saved on my computer and I reread it regularly, it's really terribly shameful.

I never did watch any more PR after Kimberly left. I did however watch both movies and practically cheered when Kimberly punched Kat in the second one. Even if she was mind-controlled or whatever at the time.

[identity profile] eretria.livejournal.com 2006-11-04 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmmm. Devon/Danziger. Where is all the good fic?

[identity profile] jainamsolo.livejournal.com 2006-11-05 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
It's tough to find, sadly. Most of the old archives are gone. I have a fair number of fics saved as txt files, but they're not all great stuff. For starters, Tara LJC has some good stories:

Darkness (http://ljconstantine.com/fanfic/dark.htm)
Tangled Web (http://ljconstantine.com/fanfic/web.htm)
Choices (http://ljconstantine.com/fanfic/choice.htm)
Small smidgety bits of D/D in And We Took It Believing It Free (http://ljconstantine.com/fanfic/free.htm)

Her whole page of Earth2 stuff is here (http://ljconstantine.com/fanfic/e2.htm).

I totally have an Earth2 icon somewhere! I should upload it.

*lol*

Tommy and Kimberly-- the hidden ship of CJers. (yeah, I'm totally on the list too)

I <3 Tommy since the very beginning. But didn't know he was back!!!

Damn. You are so bad. Evil evil evil. I almost, almost, almost got Earth2 out of my system and there you bring it back. *sigh* Right along with Space: Above and Beyond. Urgh. Now I feel a compelling need to get Earth2 on DVD. Same with Pretender.

Pairings I Can't Freaking Stand

You forgot Apollo/Dee. Blech.
