Oh, what a night!
Wow! We had a really really fun night, and I wasn't expecting to, which kind of makes it even greater!
We headed over to Your Move Games for a LOTR tournament at 4 pm-- Decipher's doing a "Black Rider" tour, where they send out reps to various geographic areas, and they go from card shop to card shop, demoing the game and playing in tournaments and giving away these gorgeous Black Rider foilies. Mmmm. Also if you beat the rep in a game, you get a box of cards. Which is a LOT. So we went over to the tournament, and I was kind of nervous, because I've been to two before, and both times the experience was pretty much ruined by an asshole fanboy. But this time the product champion running the tournament was a GIRL! No stupid fanboys when *she's* in charge. I had lots of fun in the tournament, went 1-2, and I played the Decipher rep in my first game. He beat me handily, but then I'm not exactly a great player. And my other loss was to the guy who placed 3rd. Rogue took 2nd and got lots of packs. He also won the "fierce" prize, which was a nifty hat.
Then Dawn (the product champion) invited Rogue and I out with her friends for dinner. As we were leaving, I noticed one of the other guys who'd played in the tournament was looking at me kind of oddly. Then he followed us out of the shop, and as we were starting to head toward the restaurant, he tapped me on the shoulder and said, "Jaina?" I sort of nodded, and he replied, "Kaelis." (Kaelis and I are both mods at forums.starwars.com.) Isn't that freaky!? We just randomly ran into each other at a LOTR tournament-- I knew he played, and I knew his family lived in MA, but I also knew that he went to school in NY, so it never occurred to me that I might run into him! Just too funny.
We had a fab time at dinner with Dawn and her friends, and we went out for ice cream afterwards. Looks like the MIT card-folk might relocate to Your Move on Tuesdays, since Pritchett is closing for the summer, and Dawn really wants to get more people to come. Heck, another girl-- I might start going again, too!
So yay. Happy night.
