various and sundry skating thoughts

How much does our Senior team rock? They rock this much! They took fifth at the Mid-America competition last week, where they were basically beaten by all the teams that beat them at Nationals last year, save the Haydenettes. I hadn't quite realized before now that all the strong Senior teams, with the exception of us and the Haydenettes (and Superettes, depending on how you look at it) are from the Midwest.

Other amusing stuff from Mid-America: Team Elan goes for a "terrify the audience" look with bubblegum pink, and the Crystallettes apparently decided that since they don't have a boy on their team this year, they should find the girliest dresses possible. (They also give an excellent demonstration of a lift that gets you lots of points but looks butt-ugly on the ice. Learn from the bubblegum girls: difficult need not mean stupid-looking. Ice dancers, are you listening?)

We leave for Pacific Coast on Thursday. EEP.

Congrats! And good luck next weekend.

And also thank you for bringing the concept of synchro skating to my awareness before I went to the US championships last weekend. That way, while I was looking through the program and seeing pages about synchro skating, I was able to say "Hey! I sort-of-know someone who does that!" instead of "Hey, what's this thing then?"

Yay! I'm always glad to bring synchro to a wider audience. I discovered that the USFSA website is actually going to do a live webcast of Easterns this weekend, but then I also discovered that they were going to charge $25 for the privilege of watching it, and, um, no.

Wow. The Team Elan costumes are, um, certainly bright. Seems like they would belong on a team called bubblegum girls to me!

I actually like the costumes on the Crystallettes, but have to agree that they lose a bit on artistry with that lift. Perhaps if they weren't in those costumes. I just think you lose any part of ladylike with that position.

Kick some butt at Pacific Coast!

Oh, I think the Crystallettes dresses are gorgeous. I was just amused that they seem to be having an extreme reaction to no longer having to design around a guy. That lift though-- man. "Hello everyone, please observe my butt!"

Thanks for sharing the pics. Having never seen any synchro skating, I must admit it looked very interesting. And I agree about the scariness of all that *pink*. You know, in a single costume it might not be too bad - but all at once like that is definitely overload!

Good luck at Pacific Coast!!!

Thanks! Lifetime usually runs the top six Senior teams from Nationals sometime in March; if you want, I can let you know when it's coming on.

Oh yes, please do give me a heads up when it broadcasts. Thanks!

the Crystallettes dresses are okay, but I like the Del Sol ones better!

You should *see* their program. It's the most awesomest program ever, to music from Salaam Bombay (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000PH3/ref=ase_internetmoviedat/104-6587977-6919129?v=glance&s=music). I can't ever remember anyone doing a program using Indian music before, and theirs is just awesome. Cross your fingers we come top six at Nationals so you can see them on TV!
