I am in love with this video, you guys-- a flash mob dancing to "Do Re Mi" in a train station in Antwerp. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger as more people join in, and the end (from about 3:23 on) is particularly awesome. I *loves* me a good production number. The awesomeness is diminished somewhat because it's a corporate-sponsored promotion, not a genuine flash mob/improv everywhere thing, but the sheer scale of it remains pretty impressive.

That is AWESOME.

I know, right?

That is too much fun even if it was staged. It was fun to watch the bystanders reactions! Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome!

Totally wicked! I actually like the beginning of the dance best, and just how seamlessly the new dancers are introduced, exactly on their beats

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that part is awesome too! How they look like they're just random bystanders and then BOOM! Dancing!

Wow! That is just amazing, and addicting too.

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, I keep watching it over and over!

[identity profile] qui-gon-d.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I grin like an idiot thru the entire video every time I watch it! Love the reactions of the bystanders, some of them really get into it.

Glad you liked it Dad!

Have you seen the Improv Everywhere mall musical?

Glad you enjoyed!

oh.my.God.
LMAO, ROTFL, LOL...what else can I say!
that was so much fun, even though, as you said, it was corporation/promotion but still. LOL!!!

I loved it like whoa. :D

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, I'm glad!

[identity profile] bobsmith4.livejournal.com 2009-04-05 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
My only regret is that they kept cutting away from the dancing to show the bystanders. Sure, watching the bystanders react at the beginning was fun, but once the dancers got going, it annoyed me that I had to watch people getting out their phones when I COULD be watching awesome coordinated traveling moves, etc. But maybe that's just me!

Thanks for sharing!

If you look at some of the related videos that pop up, you can see the back half as recorded by a bystander. Much worse quality, but better continuity.

[identity profile] bobsmith4.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much for pointing those out! I went to youtube and watched several different ones! Hooray for continuity! :)

Awesome, thanks Steve! I will have to look at those.

there's a short documentary on putting the whole hing together. Looks like everyone had a blast doing it.

I know, I felt the same way! It's how I feel during any video of any dance performance when they do random close-ups and stuff-- I WANT TO SEE THE WHOLE THING DANGIT.

[identity profile] lexsara.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I love this ... staged or not, it's pure fun and I'd participate if given the chance. This made me smile, so thanks!!

I know, I was like, "WHERE CAN I FIND ONE OF THESE???"

[identity profile] portnoyslp.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, after some searching through the nets, I've found what this is all about. A Belgian TV station is holding a show called "In Search of Maria"; a television contest to hunt down the lead for a Sound of Music revival (much like the ones for Grease and Legally Blonde here, or the various versions in the UK). This was a publicity stunt; it occurred about two days before the premiere.

One of the other videos says it was 200 dancers, with about 10 cameras hidden all over the place.

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, thanks for the info! I wonder if the dancers were hired or volunteer...
