Is this the Anne of Green Gables starring Megan Follows? If so, I was mildly obsessed with that series back in early high school, around the same time that Avonlea was on tv.
Oo... looking it up now and turns out they released it on DvD. Happy Valentines Day to me!

Yep, the DVD release is the reason I have the VHS. Amy bought the DVDs, so she didn't need to the VHS copies, so I got them. Yay Amy!
