still here! sort of!

Oof-- went straight out of Comic-Con this weekend into yet another conference for work! Been in Salt Lake City since Monday morning; tomorrow's our last day here.

Comic-Con was fun this year, even if I didn't get to go to as much of it as usual. (No Thursday for me, had to work. Boo.) A full report is coming soon, but the definite highlight was that [livejournal.com profile] kelbebop, [livejournal.com profile] sirrogue, Corli, and I won an industry award from Lucasfilm for our Masquerade entry, Rebel Dreams! We basically mashed Star Wars and Dreamgirls together-- the skit was a Dreamgirls medley with Star Wars lyrics, and the costumes were a sparkly showbiz take on the classic Han and Leia outfits. My sparkles, let me show you them:

EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] kelbebop posted video! Corli filmed the screen at Masq playback, so it's not spectacular, but it'll do till acparadise gets their video up:

(My parents sent me the links to some of these! I love that they're prowling aorund looking for pictures, too!)

My flist was also mad successful in the show-- [livejournal.com profile] ajmeow, [livejournal.com profile] twjudy, and the rest of [livejournal.com profile] hcc_cosplay got Best in Show with their crazy-awesome Five Star Stories costumes, and [livejournal.com profile] ladyamaryllis and her group *completely* pwned us with their ridonkulously great Harry Potter skit-dance-FLAG-ROUTINE thing and won Best Presentation by a landslide. AWESOME. I'll post their video as soon as it's up, cause pictures just don't do their skit justice. It's just something you gotta see.

(Oh, so guess what our prize was from Lucasfilm? An R2-D2 cooler. YES THAT ONE. SERIOUSLY. Is that not hilarious!?)

Oh, so THAT'S the secret project. Looks awesome!!!

[identity profile] starfirephoenix.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh fantastic! I had seen a pic from the side and didn't realise it was you! Looks like awesome fun :) Congrats on your win!

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, it was a lot of fun! Where did you see the pic?

HINT HINT.

[identity profile] duncatra.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
I think you should post something about this on the blog.

Re: HINT HINT.

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes'm. Will do once I get back to civilization.

[identity profile] moorina.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
That looks sensational! Must have been a blast.

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Yeah, it was totally awesome to be the Supremes for a night (and a day!).

[identity profile] tavariel.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
*watches video eight hundred times* Your skit gets better every time I see it. XD I didn't realize how much we had in common - Star Wars and Dreamgirls, wow. XD Plz to be making friends. I can't wait until our Dreamgirls skit next year, now! Yours made me even more excited about ours. ;D

Majorly jealous of your R2 cooler! That was so awesome!

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Y helo thar my new awesome friend!!! *stalks you, but not in the creepy way* I'm looking forward to seeing your skit next year!

We totally have to meet up sometime before next SDCC!

[identity profile] rosiewook.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
You guys are made of all sorts of awesome! A well-deserved award!!

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Paula!

[identity profile] gmtarkin.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! That is just fabulous. The choreography, the lyrics -- the whole skit is really tight. The costumes are of course brilliant (go-go boots and a thigh-high slit really change that dress, don't they?). I love the sequined stripes, but the crystal MF on the back of Han's jacket is particularly fabulous. You guys must have been a huge hit.

R2 has a twin? That's bizarre but somehow perfect. :-)

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! The Swarovski Falcon took forever and eight days to do, but I think it was totally worth it, cause it always got a great reaction.

Not only does R2 have a twin, he now has a box! Of the correct size! Which may be even more exciting.

[identity profile] qui-gon-d.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely terrific! Could you post the lyrics, please?

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks Dad! I will post the lyrics in my next post.

[identity profile] benaequee.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
O M G!!! That is so freakin funny and awesomely done! I was dying just at the sight of the picture because I designed a Leia dress similar to your for the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island next year! Where did you get the materials for yours - it's awesomely sparkly lol. I hope you don't mind, but I have to show that skit to my friends, it's so great.

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Feel free to share the skit and the sparkly love. :) Kel and Corli bought the fabric at a local store (they live in the SF bay area) that they call "the sparkly fabric store," so I have no idea what it's even properly called.

Oh that is hilarious!!!! (the R2D2 cooler, because, seriously!!!)

Congrats on the win and special recognition! I love the costumes, esp the rhinestone Falcon!

Thank you, Eliz!

Thank you so much!

[identity profile] knitress.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't tell you how much I love this.

The lyrics, the choreography, the singing, the sparkles, the LEIA WIG HATS, Rogue's hair all pompadour-y, the thigh slits. All of it.

Y'all rock.

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, thank you! Kel made the wig hats out of brown yarn with sparkles, and then she and Corli *doused* them in bronze glitter. I have glitter in my hair too, but it's hard to see. And thank you for noticing Rogue's hair! He will be very happy. :)

Yay for teh Sparkly!

[identity profile] cyndisuesue.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I was waiting to see what had you sewing up to the last again! Great job as always, my supremely talented young padawan.

I cannot decide if the sequined Falcon or the Bloodstripe should be called da bomb! You RAWK! ;-)

Super-cool-- squee for you and congratulations! I bet it was tons of fun to watch. Thanks for sharing all the pics, also. (Funny, I did see HCC last year but didn't know it-- they were Trinity:Blood at Worldcon.)

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Yep, their Trinity Blood stuff is something else, isn't it? They do amazing stuff.

[identity profile] kataline.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
omg I have the coolest master ever

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
And I have a hella awesome padawan, so I think we're even. :)

[identity profile] lexsara.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely brilliant. Just brilliant. The costumes, the lyrics, the movements... you guys completely blew me away. Great job and well deserved award!

Ooooh, thanks! *bookmarks*

[identity profile] dm-lunsford.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You guys are simply fantastic! Loved the skit, loved the sparkles, and - of course - loved the boots. ; )

Congrats on the award. Makes me proud to have such talented and fun-loving friends.

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Michelle! I love the boots, too. ;-) Rogue stopped me from making his boots sparkly, though. :(

[identity profile] kay-dee70.livejournal.com 2007-08-04 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats! I loved your costumes! So how are you splitting an R2 cooler 4 ways? LOL!

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Rogue and I are keeping custody of R2 for now, since it would've been kinda tough for Kel and Corli to get him home on the plane. Maybe we'll trade off at Thanksgiving. *g* The hilarious thing is that I already own that R2 cooler. I've had it since high school, when my mom got it through a raffle at her work. It's seen action in all 3 editions of the Musical, and right now it's on the East Coast at one of my parent's houses. But that's why I thought it was so funny that it was our prize!

[identity profile] wendyhouse.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)

You Are TEH AWESOME.

Brilliant and beautiful and gorgeous and SPARKLY!!!!!

LOVE.

[identity profile] brightcupenny.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
:D YAY! I am so glad you like it. THANK YOU SO MUCH for totally saving my ass when I was having so much trouble sewing the sparkly fabric. HUGS HUGS HUGS I MISS YOU LIKE CRAZY.

acparadise has their video of the Rebel Dreams performance up now.

The video is direct from the audience (not of the video screen), and audio is pretty clear. Enjoy!
