Haha. New icon, was reminded of this classic phrase by a post on f_w.

Back to school, yech. 8 am mornings again thanks to ballet and the class I'm TAing. ([livejournal.com profile] alij, it's their equivalent of 7.02, but nowhere near as tightly run. I have never appreciated Kate and Debbie so much as I do right now.)

Had a marvelous New Year's-- small gathering at Alex and Tree's house along with Chris and Rachel, where we had excellent fondue, delicious sparkly wine, and entertaining conversation. And of course the ever-popular three-hours-tape-delayed-not-Dick-Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve; nothing quite like a recycled East Coast celebration to start 2005 off right. All five of us found that at some point in the last few months we've all seriously considered moving to New Zealand. My dear, darling husband betook himself up to Fremont or somewhere for a weekend-long Star Trek tournament, so he wasn't with us. He brought me back a chicken cordon bleu from Jack in the Box, though, so I was okay with it all. You can't get 'em here in SD, sadly.

Ah, good man! As my own dear, darling husband likes to say, there are at least two things every husband should learn and know... "Yes, dear." and "I'm sorry." But I think perhaps 'bring offerings of favored items' works well in replacement of the second one. ; )

Can't remember the last time I ate at a Jack-in-the-Box. But I do have fond memories of that sandwich. What a guy our Rogue is!

And a weekend-long tournament? This is a stamina I just don't have. I hope he had a good time.

I'm just glad I got to partake in some of the entertaining conversation - and in spoiling the time delayed broadcast too - I never got you on the phone somehow though! :( I know the boys were busy with the new Xbox, too busy to chat, but I guess that wine really was good!

Sigh - so when do y'all visit east again next? Our closest west visit looks like May...

Hehe. Rocks fall everyone dies. :)

My parents have been seriously considering moving to New Zealand as well. I wonder what it is about the place. Probably it's a good option because they speak English, it's a beautiful country and they are small enough and far enough out of the way that when the world goes to hell in a handbasket they'll be one of the last places affected. Only reason not to go is that I would miss so many people... clearly we all just need to move together and set up a little MTG annex on a hill somewhere. Alex and Colleen can tend the sheep, us crafty girls can spin the yarn and sew the clothing, the men can build shelter, it'll be excellent. :)

Why do I have to tend the sheep? I hate sheep. They're so dumb. They're almost as bad as goats. Goats are just creepy. The eyes...(shudder)...the pupils are just alien. And goats smell bad. I suppose sheep are okay, compared to sheep. I'm in.

Hey - why do the guys get to build the shelter? I'm an engineer too! Granted, I like playing with wool and knitting, etc. but there are plenty of those so called "men" who can't make a right angle to save their (or our!) lives - so can I be on the building crew! I'll even work on running water...oooooo!

"But we're on a featureless plain. Where do--"
"ROCKS FALL! EVERYONE DIES!"

I can't quite explain the allure of New Zealand. Okay, a lot of it has to do with watching the LOTR movies and saying, "oooh, the pretty!", and then of course watching the documentaries with all the Kiwi production workers and thinking, "Damn, New Zealanders are such cool people." And it's a fresh start, and it feels somehow "newer" than the US, less built up and developed and commercial. And of course, less with the crazy. It's a bit like Canada, only smaller and less cold. (US:Canada::Australia:New Zealand, y'know?)

But yeah. Moving away from everyone would suck. Thus, we should all move together.

Well, he came back with a nasty cold, but he seems to have enjoyed himself. There were five individual tournaments over the course of the weekend, and he won two and Dan won one, so I think they did all right. :)
