Geek pride!
Apr. 11th, 2004 08:05 pmMIT repre-SENT!
Jason Szuminski, the first MIT graduate (2000, Course XVI) to ever make it to the major leagues, had his big-league debut with the Padres today, pitching the ninth inning. The third batter he faced? Barry Bonds, who was looking to tie Willie Mays' all-time home run total. He got Barry to fly out, and was about to get out of the inning unscathed when the third baseman made a throwing error. He ended up with one unearned run, but the sportscasters were just raving about him. Definitely going to have to go to a few Padres games this season and show my MIT pride. :)
(The Giants ended up winning, 6-3, which was good. Now that this series is over, I can go back to cheering for the Padres.)
