various and sundry skating thoughts

They took fifth at the Mid-America competition last week, where they were basically beaten by all the teams that beat them at Nationals last year, save the Haydenettes. I hadn't quite realized before now that all the strong Senior teams, with the exception of us and the Haydenettes (and Superettes, depending on how you look at it) are from the Midwest.
Other amusing stuff from Mid-America: Team Elan goes for a "terrify the audience" look with bubblegum pink, and the Crystallettes apparently decided that since they don't have a boy on their team this year, they should find the girliest dresses possible. (They also give an excellent demonstration of a lift that gets you lots of points but looks butt-ugly on the ice. Learn from the bubblegum girls: difficult need not mean stupid-looking. Ice dancers, are you listening?)
We leave for Pacific Coast on Thursday. EEP.
