I had quite the eventful weekend. I spent most of it in LA at the FIDM 2006 Debut Fashion Show, where the advanced-study students in fashion design and theater costume design showcase their work. I was there as part of the opening "act"-- every year the show ties in with a movie, and this year it was Star Wars. So they had the official LFL versions of Vader, Chewie, and two sets of Amidala + handmaidens (none of them the *actual* costumes, just the ones LFL sends out for events) go down the runway. We fans-- a mix of troopers, Jedi, rebels, et al-- preceded them down the runway, and then posed for pictures with guests once the show was over. I found out about it from [livejournal.com profile] kay_dee70 and was able to make it up there for the Friday and Saturday evening shows. I wore my rainbow dress, and since they emphasized that accuracy was paramount, I made the armbands and headbands for the costume that I hadn't before.

[livejournal.com profile] kay_dee70 has a great wrapup of the whole event here, with pictures here. I didn't go for the whole shell hairstyle, but I put two headbands in my hair, then rolled up the sides, with a low bun at the back. I think it looked all right. I had a really, really great time, both in terms of performing and in terms of meeting new people and having fun. I got to know a whole bunch of SW costumers that I hadn't before, and hopefully I'll see them all at Comic-Con. And of course it was terrific to see Kathy again.

Then on Sunday we had an impromptu Oscar party at Dan and Debby's house-- just them, us, and Tree and Alex. We snarked on the show, ate yummy fajitas and chocolate-covered strawberries, and played a couple rounds of Catchphrase afterwards. We also kept an eye on the live results for [livejournal.com profile] portnoyslp's Oscar poll. Bizarrely, I guessed correctly on every category but two. All credit goes to Newsweek magazine (for the minor awards) and [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda (for the major awards). The only exceptions were my not choosing Reese for best actress (shoulda listened to [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda) and splitting the sound awards between Kong and War of the Worlds, because Newsweek said it was a toss-up. And I picked the pimp song, because, dude, PIMP SONG! I should've entered a pool with some money on it, or something.

And then last night I watched Mad Hot Ballroom finally, which was yayful.
