I meant to get these up ages ago, but hadn't even managed to get the pictures off the camera. But today I did! You can now see pictures of the costumes for MTG's production of Urinetown: the Musical here. If you want the full-size images, they're here, but of course they take longer to load. These were taken on the last night of second weekend, so Janet is playing Becky Two Shoes instead of Kelly. (Poor Kelly got real sick and wasn't able to do second weekend, so our choreographer took over.) A selection of Jax's photos of the show are up here. They were taken at final dress, so a few costumes aren't completely done-- not all the cops have stripes on their pants, Little Sally's smock isn't hemmed properly, etc). But Kelly is in those pictures.

Also, the Tech apparently published a very late, very bizarre "review" of Urinetown, a week or so two weeks after we closed. I really hate reviews where they mostly criticize the book or the songs; it's so non-useful. Attention reviewers, we didn't actually write the show. If you want to mention some issues you had with the script, the music, or the lyrics, that's fine-- I don't think [livejournal.com profile] thedan could've reviewed Planet *without* talking about how dreadful the show is. But I think the majority of a community-theater review should be devoted to discussing various aspects of that particular production. Of course it probably would've helped if this particular review had been any kind of coherent, and if someone had confiscated the reviwer's thesaurus. (Read it, you'll see what I'm talking about.) At least they seemed to like the costumes:

Such artful rags, such pointed elegance. Here were social, economic, and personal character given perfect sartorial expression.

Er, thank you?

Ah well. I had a great time doing the show, I was really proud of the costumes, and I will be forever grateful to the cast for all their help and willingness to wear the crazy stuff I gave them. It was totally worth the damage to my fingernails from all that sandpaper.
