Nori has returned, bearing bridal magazines, gifts to me from her younger sister, who is wedding-obsessed even in high school. I think one of them is at least half an inch thick. Perhaps three-quarters. Frightening.

I've been paging through them, seeing if I get any further dress inspiration, but nothing is really tickling my fancy more than the dress I've already designed. All the dresses in the books are so stiff and unyielding-- thick bridal satin, boned bodices, layers of scratchy crinolines. I don't think I want that. I want my dress to be very soft, very flowy, but still have some fullness to it. Full without being stiff. I wonder if I can do that? Must ask people who know more about dress construction than I.

Should go to bed. More costume shop cleanup awaits tomorrow morning.

*lol* I, too, was given huge bridal magazines (though occasionally I've succumbed to the temptation of buying them) and see them as basically gigantic advertisements for the wedding industry. A few, like In Style or Martha Stewart, have some useful ideas.

During dress shopping, I wanted a dress like yours - soft and flowy with some fullness. Very hard to find. Found an A-line that was reaonsably soft with no boning and no sequins/beading at David's Bridal of all places - though many of their dresses are hideously stiff and over-the-top.

I'd go with making your own since you have the talent. Many things I've read have said that the fabrics can be tricky to deal with, but if you have a dream dress in your head you should make it! Good luck.

I see you're stuck in the same pre-wedding hell I am. I spent an entire afternoon looking for a dress for my sister's wedding yesterday and of course they had nothing I even remotely liked. I want my shoulders covered, fo example, but the current fashion is to have spagetti straps. ARGH!

Hi Sue! Glad I'm not the only "unconventional" bride-to-be. :) When're you guys getting married?

Meant to add - how about you two? Are you doing it here or in San Diego?

Definitely on the west coast, most probably in San Diego. His family won't be able to come, otherwise.
