no piranhas in the bathtub this year?
Feb. 3rd, 2010 11:36 pmFor the Big Bang Theory folks on my flist, I found out through
portnoyslp that there was a BBT puzzle in the MIT Mystery Hunt this year. Here is the link. It's a pretty cute puzzle and not an instant solve, but it helps a lot to be a fan of the show. There's also an xkcd puzzle that I think involves some other internet fan stuffs, which I haven't tried solving yet.
I have gotten thwacked over the head with two costumes of the OMG WANT NOW MUST MAKE variety. First is one of Alice's dresses from the new Alice in Wonderland-- we saw the trailer in front of Avatar, and I caught a fleeting glimpse of this dress and said "WANT!" I found some nice screencaps of the trailer here; that's where these pics are from. Click to embiggen:

The other one is...nnngh, why do I do this to myself? I saw the touring production of Mary Poppins back in December. That's a story for another day, but during "Let's Go Fly a Kite," one of the girls in the ensemble was wearing an outfit that was so cute, I did nothing but watch her and almost completely missed the big plot-important thing that happened in the song. And of course there's no freaking pictures of this outfit, anywhere, and I don't remember the exact details of it. After extensive searching, I found an online video of the Broadway production, so at least I have some grainy screencaps to go on:

There's a cute little hat, and clearly a jacket of some kind over a white blouse, and a full skirt. I'm assuming it's a child's or young teenager's outfit. I wish I knew more about this era-- the movie (and musical, I'm assuming) is set in 1910. I've been doing some googling but haven't found any similar outfits that I could use for further research. Anyone have suggestions? Why am I a crazy person who does things like this to myself?

I wonder if you might ping Sonia for some ideas on the Mary Poppins stuff? She's been doing all sorts of research for her book that might overlap with this era.

Date: 2010-02-04 02:14 pm (UTC)I don't know if I know anyone working on Mary Poppins, but if I do, I'll see if I can get you any info on the kite costume. Other than that... man, I'm not going to be too much help. D:
