Using a completely neutral icon and a cut for Olympic spoilers:

Okay, haven't seen any of the performances, but yay. Overall, I'm satisfied. Sasha didn't win. Neither did Irina, but now she has a silver and a bronze, just like Michelle. (Next Olympics, Sasha can try for her bronze. Ha.) All reports say Arakawa skated beautifully, and I'm really looking forward to seeing her program. Woot.

ETA: Ha! This picture really says it all-- Shizuka's all "YAAAAAAY!" and Irina and Sasha are like "Can we go now please?"

Okay, now I felt bad for Sasha. Not that I've ever found her to be all that consistent, but you could just tell that there was a physical issue. (And, to her credit, she has not said anything about it.)

But the POOR sportsmanship displayed by both Sasha and Irina? Shameful! No. They didn't outright do anything on camera (although it was widely reported that Irina threw away her medal), but they really had to get over it and attempt to show some joy if for no one other than Arakawa. Instead? We get these looks. Neither are good at hiding emotions; if they even tried!

I thought Arakawa was a bit lackluster, but this is the result of the new scoring system. If she played it safe, she could get a medal. But there was genuine joy there. She was delightful to watch as the results came out.

I'm having a very hard time buying that she fell because she was injured. The second jump, the one she didn't quite fall on but stumbled out of, was a triple flip. Later in the program, she did that same jump, this time in combination with a double toe loop, and it was fine. I think it was just nerves again. To her credit, instead of giving up as she has in the past, she decided to fight for what remained of the program, and she got a medal for it.

Perhaps, but she was tumbling out of the triples even during the practice session before the last six. That suggests to me that it was probably something more physical. Probably minor, but enough to really put her off her game.
