Holy crap, you guys! I have had a revelation over dinner!

I LIKE BROCCOLI!

I LIKE A VEGETABLE THAT IS NOT ALSO A STARCH!

HOLY CRAP! THIS IS SERIOUSLY EARTH-SHAKING!

Perhaps there is hope for me yet.

(but keep that lettuce crap away from me. let's not go crazy here.)

ETA: Yay, the za'tarc episode of SG1!!!

Aha, join us here on the broccoli side of the Force.

What made you have this revelation?

If pressed I would have to pick asparagus over broccoli, but it would be a close thing.

I suspect you would lose all respect for me if you knew how many non-starch vegetables I liked. (Hell, I was born when Eisenhower was in office — I should only like steak and potatoes, right?)

But I think we're of a like mind about lettuce.

Lettuce is really more of a support vegetable, in my estimation. It fills up volume.

I think I hear the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse approaching even as I type this...

lettuce = ick
broccoli = yum!
and one of the few veggies that is good both cooked and raw -
steamed with some butter, or raw with some ranch dip.

I think y'all are missing the point, here. One does not eat lettuce for the lettuce. It is merely a vehicle for eating ranch. In the same way, I am able to eat broccoli as a vehicle for cheese sauce.

but there are so many things that are better vehicles for ranch than lettuce :)
cold pizza, mozzarella sticks, cucumbers,...broccoli, even!

Broccoli has always been my favorite vegetable. Mmm...

My mom credits that with how I went from being a two month premature baby to being as big as I am.

Yay someon else who doesn't like lettuce! Most people look at me like I'm crazy when I tell 'em I hate lettuce (although maybe the crazy looks aren't cause of the lettuce)

Make certain you've tried multiple kinds of lettuce before you reach that conclusion! Iceberg is for rabbits. But there are many types of yummy leafy green stuff out there waiting to be discovered.

wow.

so how do you like broccoli? raw or cooked?
cuz i only eat it cooked (steamed, stirfried, etc.) raw is gross.

Oh man, broccoli! I love it fixed just about any way and think I could eat my weight in it.

Agree about the lettuce though. Never have really figured out what purpose it's supposed to serve - no real flavor or nutritional value. Now spinach leaves on the other hand... ; )
