YOU GUYS OKAY. YOU GUYS. So okay, I was all like YAY PIRATES, except I was incredibly massively depressed by the ending, which is weird because I never really cared all that much about Will and Lizzie, but OMG SUCK what an ending, you know? Except [livejournal.com profile] evilbearhunter just called to tell me about what I had just read on [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's journal, which is that the writers meant for the tag to be like THE CURSE WAS BROKEN. AND THEY GET TO BE HAPPY.

I FEEL LIKE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER EXPLAINED AT THE TIME SO THAT I WAS NOT MASSIVELY DEPRESSED AT 3 AM. But anyway.

Here and here are the relevant posts.

Oh and then I called [livejournal.com profile] evilbearhunter back to tell her about how Davey Jones can has bucket and also, yes.

Okay, *now* I'm ready to see this movie again.

Yeah, Cathleen's been scouring the web for theories about the ending and the significance of the green flash, because she was so upset by the ending for Will and Lizzie.

I bet Rogue loved all the Barbossa awesomeness! :)

What I want to know is whether Will got to ferry Norrington's soul in The Flying Dutchman? I do think James had a "good death" but I was still so disappointed in the end of his story. He deserved more!

And yes, Davy Jones can has bucket. I laughed my ass off at that post of [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's.

Ohmygosh, we *all* loved the Barbossa awesomeness. I think he got the most applause from our theater out of anyone in the movie. (We went to see it at El Capitan, which was all decked out for the occasion.)

Poor Norrington. :( Barely in the movie, and then *squish*. I thought of you!

Norrington did get one of the best lines of the movie ("...entwined, but never joined" so there's some small consolation there.

Did you hear [livejournal.com profile] hollywdliz talking about Bucket Sex on Friday? I think I may get it now.

I did not! But it amuses me excessively, now.

YES!!!!

Somewhere I got the idea that the curse could be broken but have no idea now... Am SO glad we stayed because OMG, OB hanging off the ship to shore--- oooooooooo.

I just wish we hadn't seen it so late, so I'd remember more. But then again, am still wore out from con, it wouldn't have mattered when. :)

YEAH PIRATES! :) (And you all's costumes were GREAT!)

PS- met guy in baggage claim from MIT. He missed seeing SW:ME but was very upset about missing it. Small. World. He's on MIT's football team. I couldn't believe they had a football team.

I just-- er. I still can't take OB seriously as a manly leading man! I kept giggling inappropriately!

Of course MIT has a football team! I used to be in the marching band and play at games. We spelled out MIT on the field-- one letter at a time.

Thank you kindly for the invite, but I think I could really use a quiet night at home this week, with a decent bedtime. Mm, sleep.

So does this mean that POTC4: SFTFOY is going to be set a year or so after POTC3: AWE, and Eliz and Will won't be in it (since she's busy raising the child and he's busy ferrying dead souls)? Or will it be set after the 10 year period (seems like a long time for Jack to thrash about without them...)? Only time will tell....

Yes, I was wondering that too. It does give them some nice outs, though, if any of the main stars are like "eh, I've had enough Pirates." I'm sure they could figure out a way to work them all in if they all sign back on, though.

Thought I heard that JD said he was up for Pirates 4, and OB was on Leno last week (?) and said that it had been so much fun (not to mention financially rewarding) that he would be happy to stay with POTC thru "Pirates 10" (even tho "I'd be using a walker and Johnny would be in a wheelchair!"), so sounds like those two are ready to return.

I'm absolutely with you -- I was incredibly depressed about that ending, even though I really don't much care about Orlando and his broomstick...er...wife. I don't know about the curse being broken. I mean, it's their incredibly overcomplex mythology, not mine, but it doesn't quite scan for me.

I think I need to go back and see POTC 1 just to cleanse my palate.

Yeah, I hear you. Part of the reason I loved POTC1 so much was the joyfulness and glee of it all. Not a lot of glee at the end of POTC3-- except apparently there *was* and they just didn't tell us.

Any excuse to rewatch POTC1 is a good excuse!

I just have to say, ya... WILL AND LIZ FOREVER!!1 ... er, that's all.

That and I agree with the mythology being overly complex. Bill disagrees. And the sequels were nowhere near as well-constructed as the first one was, as a movie, but this one was really good for making me cry. :-P

From: [identity profile] jainamsolo.livejournal.com
There seem to be two camps wrt the plot/mythology of the sequels-- one group says "man, I couldn't follow that at all! too complex!" and the other group says "what the hell are you talking about, it was totally easy to follow!" I'm with you and the former group, obviously.

I think 3 was much better than 2, but neither of them can even touch 1.

Oh my goodness! Yeah, I just ran across this in another post and was all like, okay, I know they like to be cryptic in these films sometimes, but that could have been explained a LITTLE better!

Although I was somewhat resolved to the ending even under the assumption that the curse would last forever - tragic yet faithful love and all that (although I was trying to figure out how it would work with Will never aging and Elizabeth getting older in her own life) - this interpretation is all wonderfulness! And I suppose I should have been able to figure it out because of the green flash - meaning a soul had returned from the dead. I blame it on the boot sex. Much too distracting, that. ; )

I think in another setting, I could totally have gone for the incredibly tragic ending. But I just couldn't deal with something that depressing coming out of POTC, one of my all-time-favorite make-me-cheerful movies.

Now that I have finally seen it, I read cleo's posts and found the same stuff as you that made me feel a bit better about things!

And yes - Will can has bucket too! ;-)
