I've discovered my new favorite feature on imdb-- the content advisory for parents. Basically it's a list of everything in the movie that could be considered objectionable: sex, violence, profanity, what have you. It's supposed to be for parents to decide whether they can take their kids to a particular movie, but it's great for me, because I'm a complete fraidy-cat who can't handle violence/gore/scary stuff. So for example, here's the page for 3:10 to Yuma (could be considered spoilery), which I now know I won't be seeing. I mean, mostly I can figure it out just by knowing the rating and the subject matter, but this is really helpful. It's all user-submitted, though, so lots of movies don't have anything there (like Shoot 'Em Up, but I mean, that one's a no-brainer). But still! Yay!

LOL!! I am the most ginormous fraidy cat of them all. I really never met another adult as scared as I am of 'scary movies' and literally I am about the biggest baby I know when it comes to any kind of violence on screen.

Most times I have Chad screen things for me, and the parentall warnings often come in handy.

However, for Bale, I think I might be willing to make an exception. :p ;)

I may challenge you for the title of Biggest Grown-up Fraidy Cat! The sad thing is I love action movies, but I can't handle anything bloody, so there's a very narrow range of movies I can comfortably see! [livejournal.com profile] sirrogue screens stuff for me too-- that's how I watched Gladiator, and Sin City, and other stuff like that. I do want to see 3:10 to Yuma actually, but only if I go with someone who's been before.

How did I not know about this????? I'm always trying to figure out if a given PG-13 movie is okay for the kids or not. (Some are, some aren't.) This will be most helpful! Thanks!!

Since my kids are pretty grown up, this doesn't apply to me, except for screening things I don't want to deal with. I will pass this info on to others whose kids are younger though. Thanks.

Oh thank you! We once rented a German-language drama about some farmers that looked interesting. It had a very unexpected rape scene, and I just can't watch those. It turned me off of renting unknown movies, especially foreign ones. This web page will help me personally quite a lot.

And yeah, that movie you linked to looks like one I won't be watching either.

Oh, yikes! That sounds not cool at all. :( This seems like a pretty new feature on imdb, so lots of movies don't have entries yet, but hopefully it will become more widespread!
