Still safe, still at home. Situation (for us) is about the same as last night. Right now, everything depends on the wind. If the strong Santa Anas continue, the firefighters will just have a terrible time trying to stop the progress of the flames. The winds are incredibly unpredictable-- they will seem to calm down, then flare back up.

They have still not evacuated my area (and fingers crossed that it won't happen)-- depends on whether the Witch Fire to the northeast of us turns more south. Currently, the fire seems to be headed straight west, which is good news for us, but less so for the city of Encinitas. Even so, if it was just me and Rogue, we would already be gone and up in C'bad with Debby and Dan. But with the Ginny-cat, the poor thing is so neurotic that we don't want to traumatize her any more than necessary, so we'll wait for official word.

They are asking everyone to stay home from work, stay off the highways, stay off cell phones, and conserve power as much as possible. [livejournal.com profile] sirrogue's workplace is officially closed; I've had no word from mine, but when I dial in it goes straight to the recorded message, so I'm just staying home. I slept from about midnight to 5 am while Rogue monitored the news, and now he's getting some sleep.

Air-quality-wise, we're actually doing pretty well, apparently much better than [livejournal.com profile] blusurfer and Dan (oddly, the reverse of the 2003 fires). There's a faint haze, stronger to the north, but the sky is mostly still blue-ish. If you go outside, you get the fire smell, but we've battened down the hatches and it's still fine in here, if a bit stuffy.

Thank you for that Google stite, I check it often. From that site, though, it looks like the road north to C'bad is kinda rocky. Can you guys get there ok?

WIsh I could send you a ton of rain. Or possibly some kind of foam-shower.

Right now the 5 north is still open. Alternatively, they have started to open the 15 again, which wouldn't take us to C'bad, but it would get us out of the area.

In the event we can't get out to the north, the Del Mar Fairgrounds are still taking people (and are surrounded by wet marshland so they are safe), and there's always Qualcomm, or our friend's house in Mission Beach.

*hugs* glad you guys are okay.

i think they evacuated the elderly from del mar and that's why it's open again...they closed it briefly last night.

if all else fails, yoav's place is up on soledad a bit. he does have two dogs though. if rogue doesn't have his cell number and needs it, give me a call or email or whatever.

stay safe.

I continue to pray for and worry about all of you out there! I've been out in the field today at work and I've felt just "crazy" that I didn't know what was the latest news from So. Cal. Local media coverage is all over this, but never any Real Details. It's all: "Such a shame" coverage...)

Hang in there, I can tell you from my "Hurricane years" experience, that you and yours will be OK. You've prepared yourselves and "stuff" can be replaced, you and your pets cannot.

Thanks for the updates. I'm glad to hear you're doing ok! Or, at least were earlier in the day! Keep safe :)

(And I understand about neurotic kitties! The poor things...)
