anvils of doooooooooom
Feb. 9th, 2008 08:27 amI finished Republic Commando: True Colors about a million years ago, and even typed up thoughts, but never got round to posting. Fixing that now! (Hey, maybe in a year I'll get it up to half-speed manage to type up my thoughts on Fury!)
Many random thoughts about True Colors:
- I love everyone in this book!
- In particular, I kind of love Vau. How the hell did that happen? I really liked his interaction with Etain. When he volunteered to go to her (rather than Ordo) I was like "OMG YES GO!" And he robbed a bank and gave all the proceeds to the clone rescue fund! And he really does love his boys, just-- weirdly.
pirate_lass had the best idea ever-- he and Kal should totes get married. It would be awesome. And cranky.
- Aha, that explains how Bardan made it past Order 66. It seems a little weird that Zey just let him go, though-- "Well, okay, we'll miss you. Bye! Enjoy your lightsaber!" I mean, we know that people have left the Jedi Order, but is it really just that simple?
- "Ask her how she likes living in the middle of nowhere with a depressed Kaminoan for a houseguest." YES PLS. SAY YES BESANY. DOOOO EEEET. In Sacrifice, Kad'ika specifically mentions that his belt belongs to his aunt. I desperately want this to be Besany's, despite the fact that he's likely got a million aunts, and also no way are he and Besany the same waist size. Still.
- Relatedly, cranky Ko Sai stuck on Mandalore = sitcom hilarity. She's like Mr. Heckles. Or Alf.
- Mereel, you amazing psychopathic awesome crazy man! I love you! Hugs for Mereel!
- Watching the boys blunder through relationships is both massively adorable and massively uncomfortable. It's kind of like middle schoolers forming life partnerships, you know? None of the established couples have spent any significant amount of "normal" time together. None of them have any frame of reference for a healthy relationship. I thought that came through pretty well in the book-- the awkwardness as they tried to figure out how to be a couple in an LDR.
- Death Pool for Order 66, anyone? My prediction from the beginning is unchanged-- Dar and Etain are both going to bite it tragically. ANVILS OF DOOOOOOM. Probably at least one of our other boys too. I hope Atin makes it. At least we know Fi (omg! poor Fi!) does.
- On that note, how will our boys handle Order 66? Especially since it's been established that it's a conscious thing that the clones did-- it wasn't any kind of hidden trigger, like I'd originally thought it was. But the way our boys, and really all the clones, have been presented so far doesn't seem consistent with blind obedience to an order from the Chancellor to kill the Jedi they've become close to. I can't imagine Omega killing Bardan or Etain. Would Levet do it? I don't know.
Only a couple weeks till whatever KT's new LOTF book is! OMG WANT.MUST FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS. MUST FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CLONES.

Date: 2008-02-09 05:52 pm (UTC)But crap. I am still stuck on the prologue of Denning's LOTF book. I can't even force myself to read it, even to get to Fury. And now there's a new KT book? Looks like I need to force myself to slog though this.

Date: 2008-02-09 07:41 pm (UTC)But there is one thing that will cause much of CJ to cry out in horror. I, for one, might actually prefer bugs...
I might post it on my LJ.
