Election-related stuff making me giggle today...

Someone at this paper is aware of all internet traditions:

Epic Win
Epic Win by Celine C on Zooomr

My friend [livejournal.com profile] wendyhouse's son loves Rock Obama:

And this one's for anyone who's 1) addicted to WoW, or 2) has a spouse/roommate who's addicted to WoW: clicky

"Take a picture of Rock Obama, not him!" LOL.

"EPIC WIN" is hilarious. I would bet that if that copy editor was under 40, it was intentional. On the other hand, I could easily see the 80-year-old copy editor in my newsroom writing that headline in all seriousness without any idea of why it's hilarious...

That is my favorite part! His tone on "Not him!"

That's what I'm wondering-- youngish editor slipping something funny past the radar, or someone doing it in all seriousness?

This was my thought as well - that it wasn't a l33t online reference but meant in all seriousness. And just happens to be hilarious. :) Thanks for the links!

Reminiscent of when a creative team at Ford submitted "Acapulco Gold" as a color for a new car model (the Maverick) in the late 60s. They quickly pulled the name when it was approved at the next level and was going to be sent on up the chain....

that's my hubby's fave part, too :)

the best bit for me is that it was totally unprompted - he came home with his ballot which he had filled out at school, no help from me!

OK. I confess. I'm over 50, so I don't know the significance of "epic win." So much so, that I used it in my facebook status. What did I unintentionally refer to?

It's just used on teh Internets to refer to ... well, an epic win -- or to compliment someone on a hilarious comment, like so:

Person A: (hilarious comment, lolcat macro, etc)
Person B: AHAHAHAHAHA LMFAO EPIC WIN

I didn't know what it was until I started reading fandom_wank a year or two ago. The reverse is "epic fail" or perhaps "PWNED" (originally gamer-speak for "owned," as in "I beat your ass!").
