Okay, you know how fic writers sometimes have amnesty days, where they post fics they've partially written but know they'll never finish? I've decided to do con report amnesty days. I usually write long, excruciatingly detailed con reports, because I love going back and reading them later and remembering all the awesome and random stuff that happened. Sometimes I just don't get around to finishing them, though, and then I figure I'll post it later when I do finish, and of course later never comes. So I'm just going to release these into the wild, and hey, if you were at a con with me and you remember something I didn't post, please feel free to comment about it!

So here is Friday of Dragon*Con 2007, which is all I ever wrote, aside from the short costume post I did right afterward. And of course I now remember very little of the specifics of Saturday, Sunday, or Monday!

[livejournal.com profile] sirrogue and I took a redeye from San Diego to Atlanta, because I could only get one day off of work. So this meant we arrived at the ATL airport at 4:15 am. Woo. Guess what apparently doesn't run at 4:15 am in the ATL airport? That's right, the little tram thingy that goes between the terminals. So we got to walk literally a mile from Terminal C to baggage claim. Did I mention it was 4:15 in the morning? NOT COOL. (Actually, rather hot, since the air conditioning was very inconsistent between terminals.) We found MARTA, caught the train, and made it to the Hyatt with a minimum of fuss and strange people trying to talk to us. And then we collapsed in our room and went to sleep. We were on the 8th floor, which would prove to be a very good thing as it was low enough to be walkable.

Woke up somewhere, oh, around 11:30ish? Downstairs to pick up our badges; would have been a shorter wait, but we were in a popular-last-name line. Then we popped over to the Next Gen vs BSG panel, which to quote Jon Stewart, was "aaaaaawk-ward." And also very disorganized. We went and had YAY CHICK-FIL-A for lunch and ran into [livejournal.com profile] fenchurche! First Club Jade sighting of the con, if you don't count seeing [livejournal.com profile] snarkel asleep when we got to our room that morning. After lunch, I went over to the Hilton (oooh!) to see [livejournal.com profile] laragoth's Dawn contest panel, which was nifty, and also the costuming track's panel on hats, also quite informative. In between, I got hold of [livejournal.com profile] padawansguide on her cell, and she said her crew was meeting to go have dinner at 5, if I wanted to come along. Heck yes I did!

I scuttled back over to the Centennial ballroom, the meeting spot, where I didn't immediately see anyone I knew. But I saw a girl in a really cute Superman-print dress, which of course turned out to be [livejournal.com profile] ferdalump! I also met [livejournal.com profile] my_belle_, [livejournal.com profile] anomilygrace, and [livejournal.com profile] princess_lesa and did [livejournal.com profile] sirgarrett and [livejournal.com profile] jennisis have dinner with us too? Were there other people? It was a little confusing at that point, because I'd only met Maggie before. Oh, and in the food court we saw people dressed as Jim and Pam in their Halloween costumes, and also two guys dressed as the Mythbusters. So then after dinner they invited me over to their room to prep for Marie Antoinette night, and [livejournal.com profile] princess_lesa was going to come over and give us all BIG hair! I went back to my room and found [livejournal.com profile] snarkel there! Yay! We talked for a little bit, and then I gathered up my dress and assorted supplies and hiked over to the Marriott. While waiting for an elevator, I started talking to another girl who turned out to be bringing a necklace for Maggie to borrow. It was [livejournal.com profile] maudelynn! (This happened SO MUCH, randomly meeting people whom I either vaguely internet-knew or had heard of. It was GREAT.)

Prepping with other people is so much fun! I curled [livejournal.com profile] padawansguide's hair, and she curled mine, and then I ratted [livejournal.com profile] anomilygrace's hair and Maggie ratted mine. [livejournal.com profile] princess_lesa worked total miracles with everyone's hair! Look how poofy we are! Well, mine is only sort of poofy in the back-- I have evil, horrible thin hair that doesn't style well at all, and Lesa did awesome for what she had to work with and made me feel so pretty. I pinned my Elizabeth dress together in the front, and pinned the underskirt together, so I could pretend to be upper-class MA style for the night. :) Also Maggie lent me some lovely earrings, and she gave me a pair of shoes that Ferd had found, and Emily lent me stockings! Costuming friends rock!

And then we hit the Marriott! Which was definitely the place to hang, this con. We went over to the Hyatt for a teeny little while, but it was gross and crowded and you couldn't take any pictures. We tried to see as many of the Moulin Rouge people as we could; I got to see Obi-Dawn which was so exciting for both of us! (I think Cressie was talking with her too? But maybe that was Saturday. See the evenings are where my memory gets wonky, because I don't have the schedule to remind me what happened.) We heard that [livejournal.com profile] sistersola had won Best Professional in the fabrications contest, and then we saw her, and WOW. OH MY GOSH, that dress! So beautiful, and so, so much work put into sewing all those buttons on! [livejournal.com profile] kay_dee70 hung out with us for awhile, and I saw [livejournal.com profile] fieryredhead briefly, later in the night. We saw an awesome steampunk group when we were looking for a place to take pictures. Someone also recognized my dress as Elizabeth! Ummm...so when we got tired of the crowds, I was introduced to the Party Vader Vator (hurray!), and then we just hung out talking for awhile. Finally, we decided to call it a night. I gave back [livejournal.com profile] anomilygrace the stockings she had so kindly lent me, and Maggie and I had a pillowfight. Sort of. And then, back to my room for sleepings!

Other stuff from other days:
  • I was one of the judges of the Star wars costume contest, which...yeah. I mean it was fun, and I enjoyed meeting my fellow judges and seeing lots of great costumes, but the organization left a lot to be desired. A *lot.*
  • I finally did a Rebel Legion group photo, and it was 2500 miles away from my base. *g* Actually it was very fun, and I got a ton of great pics of my rainbow dress.
  • We held a Masquerade snarking watching party in our room on Sunday with a bunch of CJ people and Maggie.
  • 10th floor of the Marriott was *the* place to hang out.
  • Umm...anyone remember anything else?

yay! It's so great meeting people you only have talked too before through Internet, or just meeting brand new people altogether (like you and me!) :D
