So of course, while I was in Boston, I had to go to Sewfisticated. *happy sigh* Man, I miss that store. Thanks to a tip from [livejournal.com profile] sarahlizzi, I knew they had some historical-type printed cotton lengths for $2/yard, so I figured if anything caught my eye, I should pick it up! Here's what I got:

All three are from Windham fabrics. Clockwise from top left, that's an India Chintz 1730-1800 (pattern 27849) (isn't it amazing and hideous all at once?), Wm. Penn's Vision, c. 1820 (pattern 25500), and Colonies Archives c. 1850 (pattern 26643).

The chintz and the dark red fabric are around 10 yards each; the black with the stripes is only a little more than two, but I loved it so much that I had to buy it anyway. I don't have the faintest idea what I'm going to do with any of it, but I couldn't pass it up. Uh...anyone have any suggestions?

Oooh, lovely! Can't wait to see what you decide to do with them.

The dark stripe can find its way to my house.... okay maybe it shouldn't because even I don't know what to do with it but I likes it!

The chintz kinda scares me, but the red would be a fabulous Civil War day dress; [livejournal.com profile] rvqavalon recently made one out of a very similar print. The stripey blue might make a nice jacket-type thing, and you're tiny enough you could probably get a fair amount of length out of it. ;)

Oh, good idea! I'd like to do something Civil War eventually.

The peach one would be great for an 18th century gown ;)

I've been pondering that great black fabric, and I had two vaguely historical thoughts. You could try it as a bodice inset in the late 18th century style, particularly if you could come up with a way to use some of it as a trim in the skirt. Alternatively, it might be interesting as part of a slashed sleeve, particularly paired with a jewel tone.

Not sure either of those make any sense. :-)

I was thinking that the black stripe would make a great underskirt for a 18th century gown.

And I also see the pink for an 18th century gown.

I was tempted by that awesome/hideous chintz as well! I could see it as an anglais with a hat with hideously large purple feathers. and purple trim on the dress.

I love the black stripey one! do you have any desire to do anything 1850-ish? something like <a href="http://trulyvictorian.com/catalog/443.html>this</a> could work with a white skirt...or the same sort of thing for any time after that. and the red is similar to the navy (?black) 1820s print I bought that I can't figure out what to do with. let me know if you come up with anything brilliant!

Oooooh...I like the way you think! Hideously large purple feathers sounds awesome!

I hadn't looked to do anything 1850s yet, but perhaps having the fabric will push me to do it. ;-) I'll definitely keep y'all updated. *g*
