TV/movie/book roundup of recentness!

1. Today we saw Dances With Blue Cat People in Ferngully. It was very, very pretty, and that's basically all it was. I'm glad we got off our asses and saw it in 3-D in the theater, and I don't think I need to see it again. I totally LOLed at how they crammed all the special effects credits into big huge paragraphs so that the credits wouldn't be twenty hours long. Things I also enjoyed: anytime Sam Worthington's accent slipped. Yum.

2. I've been soldiering through the Codex Alera books, by Jim Butcher. I got the first two a year ago when I exchanged some duplicate Dresden Files books I got for Christmas, but it was just taking me forever to get through the first one. Hearing [livejournal.com profile] econopodder pimp it at the Hook-Your-Friends-On-Your-Latest-Addiction seminar at JadeCon (complete with action figure theater) gave me a push to finish it, and then I got stuck in the second book. I just don't do well with Huge Epic Battle Scenes, and when one of the storylines is nothing *but* a Huge Epic Battle that lasts for the entire book...enh. But I've kept reading because there are a couple characters I really like, and I want to find out what happens to them. I'm in the middle of Book 4 (of 6) right now. ...OMG! There is a map of Alera! This makes me so happy, I can't even tell you. My spatial skills are horrible and I could never figure out where anything was relative to anything else.

3. If you're watching Legend of the Seeker, I highly recommend checking out the episode recap/picspams by [livejournal.com profile] pirateygoodness (here) and [livejournal.com profile] deej (here). They have totally increased my enjoyment of the show by about a million percent.

One of the comments in one of those recaps pointed out that Richard's #1 fear is apparently his girlfriend having babies with someone else, and then somewhere further down the fear list is "everyone in the whole world dying." OMGosh. Most adorable OTP ever, y/y? ALL RICHARD WANTS IS TO MARRY KAHLAN AND HAVE BABIES. SOMEONE GIVE THEM SOME BABIES ALREADY.

Also, HELLO, what is up with Kahlan's new dominatrix-y outfit with the corset and the thigh-high boots!? Did she decide she needed to one-up Cara's leather catsuit? Where does she even get something like that made? I guess it comes from the same place as the girls' waterproof eyeliner and Cara's perfectly layered hair.

4. DOLLHOUSE. I only just started watching the show in December, so I've missed a fair few episodes, but I did see Epitaph One and we watched Epitaph Two tonight. Oh, my heart. MamaBear!Adelle and BabyBear!RiverTam!Topher just killed me dead. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. BUT THEN. MadMax!CyberPunk!Victor showed up in his giant armored truck (which could only have been more awesome if it was also Optimus Prime) and I went EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. (I also thought, this is totally like that one SGA AU fic that [livejournal.com profile] rhienelleth wrote that had a Pirate!Villain!John.) And OMG BABIES! Or just the one I guess, but whatever, good enough. Also, hi Molly Walker!

ok, I had to re-read "Dances with Cat People in Ferngully" like 3 times before I got it. I was all "what is this movie...a Ferngully sequel in theatres???"

Ha! I just finished the last book of the Codex Alera, which came out last fall. My favorite book of all of them is, I think, the next to last book. The last book is fine, but has to spend time wrapping up all those plotlines, so it's not as much character development. I just love the Canim. And I agree, the maps really do help!

Oooh, goody. Then I shall continue to soldier on through Book 4. V. much looking forward to more Canim. (So many of the humans are just so frickin' boring.) Except Max. ILU Max!!!

I thought I was the only one who watches Legend of the Seeker. (Although I've yet to catch up on the last two.) It improves the show so much to read mocking. Wondrous!

As for the costumes? Someone has a serious fetish on this series. Even villager costumes are starting to get more dominatrix.

Oooh, the last two have been pretty good. Perdition especially.

LOTS is such a popcorn show for me; reading gleeful snark about it makes it even more fun. :D

I watched LotS on Hulu last season, but have totally spaced on S2. I'm a little disappointed to find out that Kahlen is now sporting black leather.

Oh wait, I'm male, no I'm not. B-)

But yes, a definite break in character, I say.

Wow, I might have to start watching this show now... ;)

Oh, Bridget Regan is a very good reason to watch the show. I daren't say only because, well, I'm a nerd and Legend is perhaps the truest inheritor of the Hercules/Xena style of TV and that makes it a fun thing, if not a good thing.

There's been some fun stuff this season. Also some odd guest stars. But adding Cara to their posse has been great for the show, IMO.

Sam Worthington is reason to see Avatar more than once, imo.
;)

I'm mostly indifferent on SW's looks...but once his hair grew out (in the movie) he was definitely pretty cute. ;-)

lol...that's okay.
He's taken up residence on my laminated list...I'm a bit obsessed. I even watched Terminator Salvation just for him. And that was painful in all ways except his hotness. :D

I started/have been watching Legend of the Seeker heaps these past two weeks - Matt got a featured extra role in episode 17 (season 2), so we thought we better watch the series. We're really enjoying it, so tempted by the costumes too - Matt's seen quite a few of them in person... so jealous...

(should make a LotS icon..)

Oh, congratulations to Matt, that's great news! I'll have to watch for him. :D

Ohhhhhh totally jealous of seeing the costumes in person...

Yeah, I'm being a bit perplexed by Kahlan's new outfit as well. Even I, who loves boots so well and should be all swooning with affection for such lovely thigh-high boots, find myself thinking, "Uh... what were the wardrobe folks thinking? Because, no. Just, um, no." But, oh, this show - how it makes my brain hurt and yet I can't make myself stop. It is truly TV crack in the purest form. ;)

Complete and total TV crack! It is quite delightful. Also, New Zealand scenery = the best.

You know, I think on any other character, I'd think her new outfit is ~amazing.~ But for Kahlan...I dunno. It doesn't quite work for me. I think it especially doesn't work for me because the change in costume doesn't seem to have accompanied a specific change in character.
