Costume year-in-review!
Jan. 4th, 2011 10:53 pmI just checked back through my LJ, and apparently I didn't do one of these last year! Boo on me!
So here's what I made in 2010!
1. The Blue Raja, from Mystery Men
Made for
sirrogue for our WonderCon Masquerade entry. A lot more complicated than I thought it was going to be-- but I'm pleased with how it came out. (My Bowler costume is by Corli & friends. Thanks guys!)
.
2. Penny, from The Big Bang Theory
This costume delights me to no end. I found the screen-accurate top on Ebay; still searching for the screen-accurate skirt. (I know what it is, just a matter of finding one in my size.) I made a Pennyblossom. (I made a lot of Pennyblossoms. *g*)
.
3. A gray wool hat
Okay technically, not a full costume. But I'm proud of it anyway, even if I did leave it in my hot car and now it's all smooshy. :( Gray wool, blocked buckram crown.

4. Showgirl White Witch, from Chronicles of Narnia (sort of)
Our SDCC Masquerade entry this year was Viva Las Villains-- villainous characters, Vegas-style. Mesh bodysuit + 12 marabou boas + 2 yards of fringe + ostrich feathers + icicle ornaments + 1000 rhinestones = SPARKLE MOTION.
.
5. Joker Elvis, from Batman (sort of)
Made for
sirrogue for our Vegas Villains entry. I made the base jumpsuit, cape, and belt; he did all the embellishment. (And may the stars forever shine upon
aviendiora for making the sleeves for me. Possibly also the collar; I don't remember a lot of July.)
.
.
6. "Gaga" Quinn Fabray, from Glee ("Theatricality" episode)
Because I love Glee and I love my friends. And doing this together was amazing beyond words. The dress itself was an absolute bitch to make. No two ways about it. Think it turned out okay. :)
.
.
6.5 Allie, from Hyperbole and a Half
We realized at D*C that my Gaga Quinn made a pretty good Hyperbole and a Half cosplay!

7. "Cheerio" Quinn Fabray, from Glee
Yeah okay, I didn't make any of this. We bought them from the company that makes the uniforms for the show. BUT IT IS AWESOME AND I LOVE IT AND MY CHEERIOS. AND MY SUE. EVEN THOUGH SHE SAYS MEAN THINGS.

8. "Bust Your Windows" Cheerios, from Glee ("Acafellas" episode)
Because Amber said we should! We had the Cheerios skirts already, so I just added white and black ribbon to red bikini tops from Wal-Mart and bought some really uncomfortable high-heeled sneakers. :)

9. Renaissance Batman
For
sirrogue. I made the shirt and the base doublet. He made the cape and added all the buckles and straps to the doublet. Pants borrowed from
rhynndavrie.

Costumes worn by event:
WonderCon:
Comic-Con:
Dragon*Con:
Plans for 2011:
1. Something historical. 18c, Regency, 1860s-- I'm not sure which yet, but I've got fabric for all.
2. I badly want to do a Community group at D*C. I think we could rock their Halloween costumes. (
lordofhaladin would make the most amazing PeggyFleming!Chang ever, amirite?)
3. Whatever we end up doing for SDCC Masq.
4. Fire Nation Suki, and finish Rogue's Piandao. Legend of Korra is coming this fall, so this SDCC should be pretty big, ATLA-wise.
5.Sekrit group costume Brittany S. Pierce as Britney Spears from her "Toxic" video. Even more nude-colored mesh and rhinestones!
6. Sekrit costume for
barbossas_wench's group.
7. Actual Renaissance Hawkgirl! Not that
aviendiora's dress wasn't amazing!
8. Whatever costumes Rogue wants/needs.
9. ETA: How did I forget this??? RAPUNZEL.
10. Whatever comes up!

Date: 2011-01-06 08:11 am (UTC)Community is a sitcom on NBC (Thursdays at 8). It's GENIUS. The character in question is a guy, but for this year's Halloween episode he dressed up as Peggy Fleming. And who is more perfect to be a girl crossplaying as a guy crossplaying as a girl than you??? ;-)

So, how long did it take you to make Quinn's Lady Gaga costume? Because on the actual show, she whipped it together in like one day. Not that I think the show is realistic, or anything ...

Date: 2011-02-11 07:51 am (UTC)Uuuugghhh...it took a long time. A long time. About a month of normal work, except that I procrastinated like crazy so it was really nonstop for like a week and a half.
