Jan. 11th, 2004 08:11 pmI admit it freely and without shame: I sobbed during Michelle's performance. I'd already cried during the stupid skating retrospective, first when they showed Nationals '98 and all of Michelle's 6.0's, and then again when they showed Rudy winning Nationals. Then I sat holding my breath through Michelle's entire performance, until she completed her last jump and was doing her final footwork sequence-- and I just lost it. Never, ever count my Michelle out. She's the best in the nation, the best in the world, and nobody better ever forget it.
Comments on the other women--
Sasha: "When pressed I say she is elegant." Seriously, Sasha is like the Jane Fairfax of skating. Cold, aloof, never seems to let anyone in. Sasha, if you want to win-- well, first you need to be consistent, but you also have to show some emotion. Beautiful artistry, darling, but there never seems to be any feeling behind it. Let's see a genuine smile, hmm? Also, your Swan Lake costume? Eew eeew eeeeeeewwwwww. Not doing you *any* favors.
Amber: Oh sweetie, I wanted so badly for you to be on the podium. I really truly did. You've been there so long, you've stuck with it, you've improved, and I would like nothing better than for you to win a medal. But you have to land your jumps cleanly. :( Fourth place is nothing to sneeze at, though. And I liked your dress! Good on you for designing it.
Angela: Your hands! They are as limp little fishes, hanging off the ends of your wrists. Here's a hint: DO SOMETHING WITH THEM. Your hands should be elegant extensions of your arm positions, not little floppy things that distract my attention from your skating.
Jenny: What I told Sasha? About being cold? Goes for you too, hon. I liked your dress, though. Very elegant.
Ann-Patrice: Oh, sweetie, you looked so very *tired.* You were so slow! Speed is the key! And unfortunately you chose the same theme as Sasha for your long program. Your costume was better than hers, but lose the little arm feathers. They are inelegant.
