Am finding it very difficult to concentrate in class these days; my mind keeps wandering to wedding planning. Ever so much more interesting than phosphosphingolipids and diacylglycerol.

Today's topic was transportation and accomodations. It's looking increasingly like we're going to be having the wedding (and reception, same site) about 25-30 miles outside of San Diego, either north or east. Most of our guests are going to be flying in; a few will be driving from Northern CA and a few live here in SD. So, the problem: where should they stay?

On the one hand, if we get a rate at a hotel near the wedding site, it will likely be cheaper than a hotel in SD proper, and we should be able to shuttle people from the hotel to the site using just the available cars, or arrange some sort of short-distance transportation that would probably be substantially cheaper than chartering a shuttle to take 60 people 50 miles round trip. However, there's not a whole lot to *do* in El Cajon or Escondido, so guests would pretty much be stuck in their hotels. No going to the beach or sightseeing unless they rent their own cars. But then again, if we have a Sunday wedding as planned, most folks will be flying in Saturday, the wedding Sunday, and then leaving Monday. Not a lot of time for sightseeing; if they plan to stay longer they might decide to rent their own car anyway.

On the other hand, if we get a rate at a hotel in SD or La Jolla, it will likely be more expensive, and we'll (and by we'll I mean my parents will) have to foot the bill to rent some shuttles or charter a bus in order to get everyone to the wedding site. That's going to be a very sizeable chunk of our $5000 wedding budget, which is already stretched really thin as it is. But if we got a hotel in the right area, our guests would be able to *see* some of San Diego if they wanted to, or at the very least go to the beach.

Gah! Help! O wise ones, give me your wisdom and tell me what to dooooooooo. I am not an organizer! Who put me in charge of my own wedding!? I'm going to find them and...beat them up! Or something.

don't forget that lots of the people going know each other, and can pool resources to rent cars together for the weekend, and/or get rooms together... though it doesn't eliminate the problem of the distance from entertaining experiences (and let me just say, folks would rather see you two and each other than go to the beach, I daresay). The more notice there is on a decision, the more likely a pool can be created.

And incidentally, how far is SD and all from LA...?

Hmm. Good point. :) SD is a two-hour drive from LA with moderate traffic, less if it's reeeaally late at night or early in the morning and you can just zip along. *g*
