You know how in those action movies, the big car chase ends with one of the cars slamming into a fire hydrant, sending torrents of water shooting into the air? I bet you've always wondered if that could really happen, right? Well, wonder no longer...
...so Rogue and I are on the shuttlebus to school late this afternoon to go to our ballroom dancing class. The bus is merrily trundling along when suddenly something ahead catches my eye. It looks like a big arc of spurting water. That's funny, I think, I don't remember La Jolla Village Square having a fountain. Then I notice that the water "fountain," despite being some distance away, is really, really huge. And *then* I notice the police cars and all the people standing around gawking-- and as the bus gets closer, I can make out the outline of a car under the impromptu waterfall.
Yep, that's right, folks. Looked like it slammed sideways into the fire hydrant, and WHOOSH! There was quite a river running all the way down Villa La Jolla Drive to where it dead-ends at Gilman. I was a bit worried for the cars parked along the road, because the water was getting awfully high. When we came home an hour and a half later, though, things seemed mostly dry and OK, so hopefully damage was minimal.
It was definitely a "wow, I wish I had my camera" moment. Quite spectacular, really.
