Meh-murrfle-meh-mew.
Apr. 24th, 2004 05:38 pmI need direction. ("I have direction." "Yeah, towards the mall!") I've promised the Comic-Con Masquerade coordinator that I'm going to enter this year. Further, I really *want* to enter this year. Problem-- I have nothing with which to enter; all my costumes have already been in contests. And none of my planned costumes are impressive enough or well-known enough. Elizabeth, if I make her in time (and that's in serious doubt), would really need a Will and/or a Jack for a good presentation, plus PotC is probably going to be the most overdone theme this year. Sikozu is too obscure (and requires lots of hair and makeup effort). Padme's cut scene family gown is also too obscure. The blue Padme picnic dress I want to make is only inspired by, not an actual recreation. Arwen's ceremonial dress might be a possibility, but would be better with a matching Aragorn (which just won't happen). Also, her butterfly crown would be hella hard to make.
Gah! What do I dooooooo? I know I need to just *pick* something and start in on it. Wish my costuming friends lived near me so we could be a group entry. :( :( :( After One Ring Circus last year, I really want to put together a big production-number entry. Wah.

Date: 2004-04-24 09:38 pm (UTC)Don't worry, I'm just kidding. Kind of.
Maybe Illyria from Angel? You could definitely pull that off.
I'm trying to think of ones with nice flowy outfits and keep getting armor. Sorry about that. :)

Date: 2004-04-26 12:34 pm (UTC)If I had paid attention to AtS at all this season, I might consider Illyria. But my interest in the show has dropped so low that I hardly even know what she looks like.

Date: 2004-04-24 10:19 pm (UTC)I defintely see where you're coming from. I think I want to enter both masquerades at Costume Con next year. One of my first thoughts for the sf/fantasy masquerade was Darla, but that just wouldn't work without an Angel. And to make it even better, a victim...
Anyway, knowing me it'd be a completely handsewn 18c dress that wouldn't be considered historic interpretaton let alone sf/fantasy :)
I think I'm going to do a post RotK Eowyn. Now, just to get an idea for what that should look like :)
At Costume College last year I only saw 2 other 18c dresses (I wore 2, which brought the grand total of those to 4). At Costume Con there were loads. I do wonder if PotC had anything to do with it :)
I think a Tortuga wench costume would be fun. Basically, make a really elaborate corset and wear it as outwear. Accessorizing it could be interesting too...
Then you get to hit any Jack Sparrows wandering around as well :)
Good luck thinking of something!

Date: 2004-04-26 12:39 pm (UTC)How about doing Eowyn's yellow dress from the coronation scene? That one looked really pretty and had the neat cape thingie. Or you could wait for the extended Houses of Healing scenes, there are going to be new dresses from that, right?

Date: 2004-04-26 12:43 pm (UTC)Also, if I do this one I need to have some serious discussions with Kimmerie. Because her crown/headdress-- wow.
