Had the sudden urge to watch The Phantom Wedding video, so I popped it in. It's been almost five years. Wow. I still wish I'd been able to go, but it was either AP exams or Luke and Mara: Wedding in Las Vegas, and at the time I still cared about school. ;-) Plus which, my parents would never have gone for it. Anyway, the video is almost as good as being there. Sort of. In a way. From a certain point of view.

At the moment on the video, Rogue is singing "Don't Cry For Me, Princess Leia." Amazing how much better it sounds when it's at the right tempo! *eg* However, he didn't have that fabulous fuzzy turtleneck, so it *is* missing a certain something.

I need to figure out how to make a stand for my duct tape double so I can start draping stuff. My best idea so far is a coat rack, but the cheapest of those I can find is $20 at Target. Any bright ideas, o wise ones?

Hmmm... I've done duct tape doubles of my mother and I, but I already had an adjustable dress form so I just pilfered that stand. We went to the hardware shop and bought aluminium tubes that fit over the stand and build the double around those. The one I'm not using sits on a whittled down champagne cork so the metal doesn't tear holes in the lino!

I had that in my head all day a couple days ago.

if you're going for really cheap and not necessarily attractive, you can get a large coffee can or a small bucket, a pipe with one end threaded, and some plaster or redi-mix cement. You can get pipe gut to length and threaded at the hardware store. just mix up the cement in the can/bucket and then hold or rig the pipe straight in it until it sets up. Buy a plumbing fitting that fits the threads and attach that to your dress form. That way, even though the stand isn't incredibly portable, the form still is.

Not overly portable, but extremely cheap -- $5 maybe? although it does involve another trip to the hardware store....

Do that for two months and welcome to my world. :-)

Maybe PVC pipe and a 5-way connector, like the one shown here. Then attach 10" to 12" lengths into the remaining four holes, and cap the ends so it doesn't wobble. The cost might be around $5 to $10, depending on what PVC costs in CA.

The PVC idea sounds like the most portable, and takes no major tools to construct. Not sure about the cost -- the pipe is usually fairly inexpensive (even large diameter stuff in order to be sturdy enough), but the connectors and end caps add to the cost, as would PVC glue if you wanted to fasten it all together (altho you could use some screws -- we did that with a set one time). Not sure how the top of the pipe would connect to the form....Maybe Sean and I can take a look at it in a two weeks.

I could probably use another kind of connector, like a three-way or four-way, and put some "arms" onto the main pipe. That should hold up the dress form pretty well, right?

See, I thought about that, but then when we were at Home Depot I couldn't find any five-way connectors, so I just figured I was stupid and they didn't exist. Maybe I'll go have another look, though. Or try another store.
