"I'm Batman."
Jun. 19th, 2005 02:01 amSince my flist has been abuzz with joy over Batman Begins, we went to see it tonight. (We would've gone anyway, but the glee of the various posts pushed us to see it sooner rather than later.) Overall verdict? AWESOME. Christian Bale was convincing as both Bruce Wayne and as Batman, which is tough. But of course-- Christian Bale, dude. He's the man. He could teach Michael Vartan a thing or two about acting with more than his forehead furrows.
- I found it very interesting that Michael Caine went with a more "lower-class" accent for Alfred. Definitely different from other portrayals.
- Holy crap, I did not even *recognize* Gary Oldman. He really just disappears inside his roles, doesn't he?
- That bit at the end, the "escalation" discussion? I nearabout bounced in my seat. One of the sticking points I've always had with superheroes in general is that they *create* supervillains, just by existing. Finally, an acknowledgement of that! (I don't think that means superheroes shouldn't exist, but I like the murkiness of the issue.)
- I've been watching too much JLU, because I was thinking, "No, Batman, you can't get with Katie Holmes! You're supposed to be with Wonder Woman!" Oy.
- Scarecrow OMGSCARY WAH. I was looking over my glasses for those scenes. *shivers*
- In general, the movie was just so dark and gritty and angsty, everything I really love about the Bat-universe. (Batverse?) Batman is one messed-up dude, and the movie didn't shrink away from that. Now I want him to have his Batfamily so I can bask in the dysfunction. Mmmmmm.
Also, did I mention that Christian Bale is hot? I suddenly want to rewatch Little Women. (Or Newsies, if I owned it.)
