Finished it-- took about five hours reading at top speed. I'll do a more detailed reread next week but I *had* to get the basics so I could stop hiding from spoilers.

...I'm not entirely certain I haven't just read a very long fanfic.

[livejournal.com profile] schneck128! We're canon! Yay! (Not that I ever had any real doubt...but it was still cool.) OBHWF, baby.

I was giggling like an absolute madwoman at the Lupin/Tonks stuff, because I ran into a girl a year ago who had a Lupin/Tonks icon and I thought, "Man, that's a hella random ship, wonder where she got that from?" And now it's canon. Bizarre, and yet cool. I'm sure the tiny Lupin/Tonks section of fandom is thrilled. (I've had to chortle a bit at the lamentations of the Sirius/Remus shippers, and see them driven before me. Fandom_wank has been a goldmine, dude.)

I'm really not up to commenting on the actual substantive events of the book right now, which is why I'm making random shipping remarks. Except I give two thumbs up to her portrayal of Draco. A suave, leather-pants-wearing hipster he is not. Also, there were some parts that freaked me RIGHT OUT (forced potion-drinking GAH, I never want to think about that again thankyouverymuch) and made me very glad I was not alone in the house reading the book.

Oh, yes, Lupin/Tonks made me very happy!

If for no other reason then it's been delightfully fun to see the Sirius/Remus shippers squirm around. But, in actuality I've loved Tonks/Lupin so I mostly just burst into tears of happiness at that point. (Don't ask, I was all emotional)

Oh, good, I don't feel like such a heel for enjoying the OTWers' discomfiture. And the H/Hrs are just...beyond belief.

I need some answers on big plotty stuff like the green potion, Who Is Snape?, and the RAB (it's Regulus, people, has to be). This was so a set-the-stage book.

This was so a set-the-stage book.

This was the second PoA if you will. Definitely a set the stage, introduce concepts and people that will become important later. And because of that I really can't wait for book seven.

*settles in for a lont impatient wait*

I sure hope it's a set the stage book, because if not bits of it were sloppy. I know better than to doubt her, I'm just sayin'.

Particularly the what the hell side is Snape on issue. There are totally ways out of some of the things he did in 6 (and she'll probably come up with one I haven't even thought of), but damn.

I really really wanted to leave something outside my cut tag like, "omg, [livejournal.com profile] jainamsolo, readthisbookrightnow!" But I refrained. :o) (and yay! now that you know, I can bust out my H/G icon!!)

OBHWF? Wha's that?

Wheeeeeeeeeee!!! Our OTP is canon, our OTP is canon... :-D

OBHWF is One Big Happy Weasley Family, the theory that everyone ends up somehow connected to the Weasleys-- so Harry gets with Ginny, Ron with Hermione at the very least, and it's often extended to the other siblings (Bill/Fleur, Percy/Penny, one of the twins/Angelina, etc).

Lupin/Tonks in OotP is like Luke/Mara in the Thrawn trilogy - it's on a frequency that only the hardcore 'shippers can hear.

That's a really good analogy. I suppose that makes me a hard-core shipper since I picked up on both...?

Oh dear.

And I was thrilled to see the Tonks/Lupin ship. I totally didn't even think about it and as a far as fanfic goes...I tend to focus on Snape, Draco and Harry stuff so Lupin missed the boat.

I love the portrayal of Draco and Snape...oh I forgot, this book is about *Harry*. Who cares, more Draco and Snape. It is a shame that I am relieved they did not call Draco "Drake" or "Dragon". One too many ficlets drive me insanes.

Can we get book seven NOW....
