jaina: (charlie/claire daddymommy awwwwww!!!)

So yeah, I just spent about thirty seconds on the Lost boards at TWOP and was very, very quickly reminded why I don't read there anymore. Ow, the bitter, it chafes!

We caught up on 2x03 through 2x08 of Lost on Sunday and for all that it was six. damn. episodes, it felt like hardly anything happened. I am just not on board with this whole barely-two-days-an-episode thing. For them, it's been forty-eight days; for me, it's been well over a year, and it's causing a serious mental disconnect. And Claire's porcelain-skinned infant of ginormousness is not helping matters, let me tell you. (The kid's supposed to be, what, less than a week old? Can we at least put some red Jell-o on it or something?) Oh also, the flashbacks? By and large, not the most enlightening.

Uh...let's see. Charlie. I haven't actively been reading posts in hopes of avoiding spoilage, but from what I've gathered, people have been really irritated by him this season. Watching these episodes, I guess I can see where they get that, but I still love him to bitty pieces, even if he was mean to poor Hurley. Is he totally overstepping his bounds with Claire? Probably, but I think it creates interesting drama and I'm willing to follow where the storyline goes. I absolutely see where he's coming from-- his self-appointed position of Protector of Claire and The Baby is desperately important to him, and he's terrified of losing it. Charlie really needs to be needed, if that makes sense, and the idea that Claire might not need him, or that someone else could do the job better, must be driving him to distraction. Plus, awww, daddy!Charlie. (I totally have this thing for dysfunctional parents with no idea of how to raise a kid, if it wasn't already obvious from my decade-old devotion to Lucas and Sami from Days of our Lives. Shut UP.) Oh, also, my bet is that he's not back on the smack yet, but he's seriously thinking about it. And he probably will go back to it in the next couple of eps. Conflict, yay!

What else? Er...Shannon! I've held no great love for Shannon, but I was damn disappointed that she was the next to go. I mean, she'd been getting more interesting with Boone's death and being left in charge of Vincent, then we finally get some more backstory, and bang! she's dead. And now we don't even get to see Boone in flashbacks. So, sucks to be both Ian Somerhalder and Maggie Grace. Also, a lesson for everyone else on the island: Don't have sex, or one of you will die horribly shortly thereafter. ...on second thought, hey, Jack and Kate, get to that sexing already!

Oooh, oooh! Lock-Nah! Lock-Nah! Yeeeeeeee, so awesome! *loves* I couldn't catch his character's name on Lost while we were watching it (although imdb.com tells me it's Mr. Eko) so I just kept calling him Lock-Nah. He. Rocks. Much, much more of him, please, and slightly less of Analucia, who I think has the potential to be interesting but is in danger of falling to the Kate side of the Force.

Also, Bernard and Rose! *warm fuzzies* And Jin and Sun! Jin and Sun, the most romantic people on the whole damn island, and possibly the prettiest. Remember when we all thought Jin was a big heartless meanie? *hugs Jin*

So, in conclusion, people I love beyond measure:
Charlie
Claire
Jin
Sun
Michael
Lock-Nah Mr. Eko
Locke
Hurley
Bernard
Rose

People I'm cool with:
Sayid
Walt
That Libby chick
Analucia (for now)
Sawyer
Shannon (dead)
Boone (dead)

People I have very little use for:
Jack
Kate

I agree about Charlie - I've kind of been missing him the last bunch of episodes - he's barely been in them. I think it's sweet that he's protecting Claire and the baby - and I don't think he's on the smack yet either.

I was bummed about Shannon too - and losing her makes us lose the possibility of Boone flashbacks, as you say. Bummer. I think Shannon had some plot possibilities. But I guess not.

Bernard and Rose were very sweet and so were Jin and Sun - nice to see some happiness come their way.

Speaking of soaps--

"Libby" (Cynthia Waltros) played Annie on Guilding Light. She started out pretty nice and ended up f'ing CRAZY. Completely out of her freaking mind. Then again, she was in a relationship with Josh Lewis while Reva (one of the times at least) was presumed dead (but wasn't, of course).

Nooooo one and I mean Nooooooo one comes between Reva Shayne and Josh Lewis, even if one of them is dead. And to tie this to Star Wars-- Josh even worked with a crazy doctor/scientist to create a clone of Reva. Trust me, I love Kim Zimmer, but it was creepy to see her at oh 40 playing a teenager.

So, while I see Libby- I keep waiting for her to go all Crazy Annie on folks which makes me SO want her to be an Other because that would be perfect.

And Claire-Charlie-Aaron? Sooooooo the "lightside" Sami-Lucas-Will. I've never felt more sorry for a soap-kid than for Will. He just gets all the bad luck with his mom and dad!

Gah, how can you be okay with AL? I started out thinking she wasn't that bad, but now I want her to die die die!

I had the same reaction to "Annie" when I first saw her out of her GL role...in the short-lived sitcom (on FOX, so makes sense!) Titus. So now I'm used to seeing her as non-Annie. But yeah...she was COMPLETELY psycho at the end there! I keep remembering when she found out her baby died in utero, and staged it so it looked like Reva pushed her down the stairs and she said THAT killed her baby. She was SOOOO EVOL!!!

(What was REALLY weird was seeing Kim Zimmer as the news broadcaster on Babylon 5! Talk about STRANGE!!)

I think AL is completely psycho and, at this point, nothing they can show me can redeem her. I'm interested to see what Kate's big secret is (she's never bugged me like she's bugged others), and see if it's any worse than what Ana did to the guy that shot her.

I do think Charlie's back on the smack, only because of his obsessive/compulsive behavoir with Aaron. But I still like him. :-)

I heard somewhere that there were only 4 days between Boone's and Shannon's deaths...that seems WAY too short. I do agree that this season so far is moving too slow. While I loved the concept of showing the "other side" of what happened when opening the hatch, it was pretty much the same as the previous episode. My first thought was, "Well, they saved TONS of money there!" You know, not having to pay writers for a whole new episode, OR shoot all new scenes, as they could've just set up a second camera at a different angle (of course I don't know if that's what they did, but it sure seemed that way!). That miffed me.

I agree, there should be more Charlie. And Claire. And Charlie and Claire together. *g*

I wonder if the have-sex-and-die rule applies to couples who were together before the island? ;-)

I *knew* that I knew the name Cynthia Watros from soaps-- I just couldn't remember where. Thanks! I hope Libby doesn't go batshit, though, because the island is pretty well stocked with the crazy.

Will pretty much got the shortest stick there is in soap-kid-dom-- two completely dysfunctional teenage parents who can't decide if they want to kill each other or make mad, passionate love. I mean, the kid's turned out better-adjusted than either Sami or Lucas, which I don't know how the hell that happened. But it makes him one of my favorite characters (and is the reason why the only fic I've ever written was about Will).

Hey, where did my Lumi icon go? Grrr.

Because I think they can go lots of interesting places with her, and I want to wait and see what they do. (I don't have a *whole* lot of faith in the writers, but I'll be patient for now.)

Ooh, I don't know - Rose and Bernard and Sun and Jin might be in trouble then!

It seems to me like the island is for Lost people, and when they straighten out whatever they were lost over, they die. Like Boone got over his Shannon fixation and died. Shannon got over her shallowness and bad choices in men by entering into a more mature relationship with Sayid - and boom, she's dead. When they resolve their issues, that's it for them almost..

I do like Charlie and Claire together. I didn't like her being pissed at him for being protective...

Charlie's pretty manic even without the heroin, which is why I'm not sure he's back on it. But I'm sure we'll find out for sure, soon. :)

Time between Boone and Shannon's deaths...hang on, I have "The Other 48 Days" on my computer, I'll check. It says Day 41 is the day the tail people (unknowingly) talked to Boone, and he died either that day or shortly thereafter (little plane fall down, Boone get hurt, Jack no save him, he dies). So then, a week between Boone's death and Shannon's? Damn, that seems really short. And yeah, they just seem to be retreading the same ground over. and over. and over. this season so far. I'm really ready for them to suddenly say "and it's been two weeks since this last episode" which would be AWESOME.

(As an aside, oh man, I know Wet!Sayid holding Dead!Shannon is supposed to be all tragic and stuff, but mostly he looks like a little puppy dog who's just falled in a lake. Hee!)

See, I was pondering on that the other day (you "die" on the island once you fix whatever's wrong with you) but it seems...I dunno, too easy. Plus, Sun and Jin got over their whatever, unless there's more wackiness there. And Shannon may have been on the road to Becoming An Actual Human Being, but she had a *long* way to go. And I wanted to see it. :(

I think Claire has her own neuroses, just like everyone else, which are likely contributing toward her ambivalence to Charlie. I wonder if she feels he might leave her too, like her ex did. And as Locke pointed out, Charlie's being awfully hypocritical in his Claire-doesn't-know-how-to-be-a-mom stance. I can see how that would irritate Claire.

Well, I could do with a lot less of her. Lets hope they stay focused on the original lostaways for a while!
