RIT Black dye works wonderfully-- when you're not actually trying to dye something black.

Also, I should not be allowed near ballroom dance shoe catalogues.

Oh yes! It worked exactly as intended, ie, giving a blueish gray color.

oh, thank goodness!
I had these terrible visions of black dye being spilled on something.
like a white Elizabeth shift, or silk dupioni, or something tragic like that.

I had to deal with this many moons ago. I tried to dye grey fabric black with (amazingly enough) black Rit dye, This resulted with a slighltly darker shade of grey. Needless to say, I was annoyed.
