Tanith and Ben still rule the world, but Melissa and Denis just plain rocked. I'll be rooting for them at Worlds for sure. And dear God, [livejournal.com profile] julietvalcouer, I totally see what you mean about Morgan Matthews. She looks-- well, gross. Very sad.

Pairs? Um. I really did not see this great American pairs renaissance that the commentators kept going on about. I mostly saw couple after couple heave each other about and gasp around the ice. The kids with the big triple twist though, they were good, but they've got a ways to go to be really competitive internationally. And what the hell was up with John Baldwin's I-got-mugged-in-Russia story? Seriously weird.

The little junior girls were adorable, but I kept thinking, "Oh, just wait till you hit puberty, kids. We'll see who's laughing then."

Tomorrow night! Evan Lysacek and His Manly Stubble try to dethrone Johnny Weir and His Inexplicable Hair! Oh, and there might be some girls skating too or something. (Go Alissa! Don't choke!)

Love the Cutting Edge quote!

I used to be such a skating junkie (especially in the era of Scott Hamilton, Brian Boitano, Katarina Witt, Torvill and Dean, Brasseur and Eisler, and Gordeeva and Grinkov which shows my age, I guess. :) ) Other than the Olympics, I haven't watched much over the last ten years because I think it's gotten too jump focused and lost some of the artistry and grace. And, I'm still seriously angry that Grishuk and Platov won Gold in 1994 with an illegal move over Torvill and Dean. ;)

Belbin and Agusto were training about 5 miles from my house at the time of the 2006 Olympics. Not sure if they're still at the same rink now.

I agree, the technical side is really more valued than artistry these days, and that makes me a sad panda because I will take an artistic skater who sometimes screws up their jumps over a consistent jumper with zero artistry any day of the week. So I latch onto the artistic ones and love them and cry when they inevitably fall and don't win. But I love them anyway.

Oooh, don't get me started about 1994 and T&D being robbed. God, I was furious. The righteous fury of a skating-crazed preteen. *g*

That's cool about Tanith and Ben! Man, I would totally sneak over and watch them practice!

Where I'm sitting, Evan's been hot for a while. (And since someone I know who knows Evan suspects he might possibly be bi, it might not be as futile as someone drooling over, say, Johnny Weir.) GO EVAN.

Morgan is a skeleton. And apparently her father is not helping--at Nebelhorn he was busy being thrilled they almost caught the Kerrs that he apparently hasn't noticed his daughter's got a problem. Maybe this'll wake them up.

But...Davis/White are my new favorites. The unison! The speed! The timing! You can tell they've been together ten years.

As for ladies, while I do NOT see the big deal with Rachel Flatt (she's somewhat lyrical but immature) she wuzrobbed--if that triple triple was cheated, Kimmie's SO was. And omg, Emily's program--it was great, but the instant she did that little scoop-the-snow thing I was like "Oh, yep, this is the program Mark made for her." He's OBSESSED with that snow scoop move.

See, I had him classed as "aw, adorable" but then suddenly it was like "whoa, hot!" Maybe it's the stubble.

I really hope Morgan gets some help. They could be really good. :(

I really liked Davis/White but was not terribly crazy about their program. But they're sure to be around for years to come so maybe I will like next year's better. :)

I agree, Rachel Flatt, *totally* robbed. You could tell the commentators wanted to say it too, but were too chicken. Give her a couple years to grow up and get some artistry, and she'll be great.

I think it's the intesity thing-Evan's ON this year. And has the eyes to pull it off.

I think with Flatt, they figure they can't send her to worlds, so they might as well not bother placing her.

Yay! Maybe you can help... So, at Uno's the skating was on, but no sound. And they showed a pair that MUST have been skating to Les Mis, because the guy was wearing Enjolras jacket. But beyond that we couldn't figure out what it would be. First of all, Enjolras has pretty much no interaction with any girls in the show. Is it just a conglomoration of Les Mis music? Anyway, this was much debate. And my brother maintained that just because he was wearing an Enjolras jacket didnt mean the music was from Les Mis. But I think he was wrong.

Yep, it was a Les Mis program. Just a mishmosh of music, no story or anything. I have no idea what she was wearing unless she was supposed to be Young Cosette or something, which-- ew.
