OMG Y'ALL. ESPN Classic is running old American Gladiators episodes!!! Today I saw the last bit of a very early episode (wikipedia informs me it's the second half of season 1) and OMG YAY! Even though the two events I caught were boring (Human Cannonball and Breakthrough & Conquer) and the Eliminator was awfully lame back then. I liked Powerball and Assault. And the one where they were on bungee cords. And Atlasphere, of course.

I'm sad that we don't get ESPN Classic at home. I want to see Wesley Berry win his million championships again! Two Scoops! (Why yes, I am a ridiculous geek.)

And here, at long last, is where our geekhoods overlap.

Well, this and Buffy/Angel. And Pirates.

Now if only we could combine them all somehow...

What else out of the dark parts of my geeky fandom closet do you share???

I dunno, but it's probably very embarrassing for both of us. :)

Oh, wow. I didn't think anyone else remembered that show. I so have to track this down! I think hotels have ESPN Classic -- now this would make great weeknight entertainment. :-)

One of the last "How I Met Your Mother" eps mentioned the World's Strongest Man competition, which is another old guilty pleasure. It's so funny to think anyone else watched these things...

In fact I have been watching it in a hotel! Not a whole lot else on, except various flavors of Law & Order. :)

OMG World's Strongest Man! Magnus Ver Magnussen! We *loved* those. Especially when it had to do with lifting cars, or hauling giant anchors, or something!

There appear to be many of us! Ah, the early 90s. :) The hair, in particular, is fantastic. And the glittery spandex.

My first non-babysitting job was for Henneberry's pancakes, and one of their many children was out in California appearing on the American Gladiator show. I cannot say for certain whether I ever met that one. Alas, the sands of time have taken the nickname, although if you threw a few at me I might guess. Or if I were less lazy, I could search Google.

I just remember the event with the giant Q-tips. They had a different name of course, but my family just referred to it as the Giant Q-tip Event.

Ha. I saw the same thing yesterday. Was like 'whhhheeeee!' and remembered back when I was a kid and totally in LUV with Nitro (I think that's his name)...

Yes, Nitro! And Laser. And oh, Siren, the deaf girl!
