...here's my Ten Unpopular Fandom Opinions.

10. Aragorn is hot, hot, hot. Viggo is not, not, not. I don't know what it is, but I find the man himself extremely unattractive.

9. Draco Malfoy? Also not hot. He is, in fact, a total bastard. Except in Rising from Ashes, in which he's still a total bastard, but the story is so well-written and absorbing and addicting that you don't care.

8. Michael Vaughn is a p-u-t-z. S/V are boring. Boring boring boring. And they never should have been and never should be the focus of the show. Show us Syd kicking ass, please. Also more SpyDaddy. And Sark.

7. I really liked Jool. She was screechy and annoying and obnoxious, but I understood and appreciated her purpose on Moya. I think I also recognized that she's what I would be like, if I suddenly found myself in her situation. ;-)

6. All of my opinions on AtS! I think Cordy-- REAL Cordy-- was the heart and soul of that show, and losing her was something the show will never overcome. I think A/C was a great idea, executed very badly. I think the show lost its focus during the second half of S3 and has never gotten it back. I think S4 was a miserable failure.

5. I don't like slash. I never have. I have no problem with other people liking and writing slash, but it does nothing for me. To extend on that, I'll quote [livejournal.com profile] schneck128: "I believe it is possible for men to have deep and meaningful relationships with each other that don't involve sex. I do not believe all of the Fellowship Hobbits are jumping into bed with each other. And I especially don't think that orlando bloom, johnny depp, and dom monaghan are getting it on in all their free time." WORDY MCWORD.

4. Real Person fic is scary and icky. No, I'm not going to go around yelling, "It's like rape, you terrible people!", but I just have issues with writing fic about real people.

3. Tamara Braun is not Carly (on General Hospital) and never will be. Carly left with Sarah Brown, as far as I'm concerned. Sonny and Carly live in my head in a land where it is perpetually April 2000, happily frozen in time forever.

2. I love the *concept* of the serial killer storyline going on right now on Days of our Lives. I think it's an amazing, gutsy thing to kill fan favorite characters permanently, with no chance of them coming back. It could be absolutely fantastic storytelling, the whole town reeling from these killings, and the survivors banding together and rebuilding themselves after it's over. It could totally reinvigorate the show, losing old relationships, forging new ones. Unfortunately, it's being carried out with all the care and subtlety of a sledgehammer, and I hold out no hope that it will make the show any better. But the concept is brilliant.

1. Buffy should have ended at Season 5. Yeah, it would've meant losing the musical and "Tabula Rasa," but it was the right ending for the show. And we could've been spared all the unpleasantness of S6 and S7. None of the garbage that ended up happening with Spike himself, or with Spike and Buffy-- we could have ended with "I know you'll never love me. I know that I'm a monster, but you treat me like a man." And that would have been sad, but beautiful and right.

Wow. I ended up babbling a bit, there. Well. Time to get back to present-making.

I haven't read that story but ITA about the character. I think Harry Potter fans have a habit of turning him into the "Spike" in the fandom, at a loss for a good looking Harry Potter character other than Snape to swing from good to bad.

Ah, I should add POTC to my list of DVD's to be rented once I subscribe to netflix.

I agree with you to a certain extent about slash. I really hate seeing slash fic written about characters when there are no clues in cannon to suggest that they are homosexual.

"3. Tamara Braun is not Carly (on General Hospital) and never will be. Carly left with Sarah Brown, as far as I'm concerned. Sonny and Carly live in my head in a land where it is perpetually April 2000, happily frozen in time forever."

I know some of the die hard Sarah Brown fans I know will shoot me for this, but Tamara Braun isn't a horrible actress. However she isn't Carly. Sarah Brown gave a certain toughness, a certain egdge to the character which Tamara Braun doensn't have. It's like Carly became a different, softer, sweeter character with the recast, however Carly isn't soft and sweet.

Yes yes yes yes yes. YES. This bugs me enormously, when characters just "wake up gay."

My sentiments exactly. TB is a fine actress. She simply is not right for Carly.

Get Will! Too. And God, I couldn't agree more with you, there should be something higher than 100% Agreement.

I'm pretty sure just like with Alias I 100%(Plus) agree here. I haven't seen all of Season 3 yet, but just saw the first episode of that season on TNT yesterday -- and seeing Darla pregnant just made me very uneasy. I don't want Connor to come. Cordelia belongs on Angel, she was essential to him and the entire quest of the show -- which has gotten lost in Four and so far in Five. While I still enjoy the show, no Cordy is just wrong. And though I've never actually seen Cordy/Angel in love, falling or whatever happens in Season 3, the minute I heard about it, I just knew... it was Right. It makes so much sense, and I'm not totally sure why but it just does.

1. Buffy should have ended at Season 5. Yeah, it would've meant losing the musical and "Tabula Rasa," but it was the right ending for the show. And again, ITA. That ending was true, pure and right. It was how it should have ended and stayed... also Season 6 Willow -- I HATED her. It was a combination of her selfish actions with Buffy and Magic/ and also my own views on Death and Grief. Buffy should have been let go, and how after the 'rightness' of her death and Willow herself hearing about 'Death is your Gift' anyone could think Buffy was in hell, pissed me off!

And Season 7, was just so flat. It was empty to me. Season 6 had it's moments, but Season 7 was pretty much flat. Too many extra characters, it should have just been Buffy, Xander, Willow and Giles -- with Spike, Dawn and Anya. Maybe Andrew. And one or two potential slayers, not a slew of them. And Kennedy and Willow -- stupid as hell move.

Oops, I'm ranting. Shutting up now.

And is it true, Caitlin, did I read it right on SZ just now -- Charisma will be on Angel again soon -- atleast once?

Yes! Charisma will be in the 100th Angel episode, which airs sometime in Jan or Feb. It's not known what will be happening in the ep, or what's going to happen with Cordy-- but hopefully, hopefully it will leave the door open for her to come back, and the ratings for that episode will be so good they'll have no choice but to ask her back.

Oh, I am desperately hoping. I'm just terrified they're going to kill her off or something, and then get "closure" that way. I definitely wouldn't put it past Joss. Wah.

Well, unforunately you can't put anything passed Joss, but either I'm hopelessly hopeful and naive, or my instinct is right (I go with my instinct) that he won't kill her off -- that hopefully whatever it is will bring Cordelia, the Real Cordelia back... I don't think killing her off would actually give anyone any closure, especially Angel.

I did too. But weighed against all the bad of S6 and S7, I could've done without them.

This is me dissenting. See me dissent? Dissent, dissent, dissent.

Draco Malfoy in CANON is decidedly, erm, not hot. However, Fanon!Malfoy has evolved into another animal entirely. See

http://www.livejournal.com/users/nmissi/33383.html

for further edification. In canon, he's a spoiled lil git of a toadlike human being. In fanon, he's snarky, tortured, angsty, and sexy.

And Tamara Braun does a fine job acting- she's just not acting like CARLY. Carly as played by Sarah was someone you felt for, even as you boo'ed and hissed at what the character was doing. TB's Carly is by turns shrill and bitchy or the doormat-stepford wife. I don't even RECOGNISE that character anymore.

And C'mon- you don't see slash potential all OVER the hobbits? Okay, maybe not in the book, as the books are decidedly sexless. But I challenge anyone to watch the actors who play the hobbits together in interviews (And onscreen) and NOT see the slash. C'mon- Sam and Frodo in TTT just DRIP angst and longing. (And I say this as someone who doesn't actually READ LOTR slash. But even I see it there.)

RP fic is squicky, no bones about it. Except when it's humorous. I recall a "James Marsters" fic someone wrote that was brill. Of course, it parodied the nekkidness season and Marti Noxon's neuroses, which might be why it was so much fun.

And Buffy should have stayed dead. That's all there is to that. :)

How dare you voice opposition to my unpopular opinions! You can't be my friend anymore! :-P So THERE.

I've never got into Fanon!Malfoy. I can certainly understand the appeal (I seem to have a thing for blonde British bad boys, between Spike and Mr. Sark), but it's never happened for me.

Agree, Tamara is a good actress. She just isn't Carly. Even when I was watching GH for Lucky and Liz, and couldn't stand Carly and her storylines, I really appreciated Sarah Brown. She really made me feel for Carly even when I *knew* she'd done horrible stuff and deserved it.

And no, I've never seen anything slashy about the hobbits. I mean yes, I can see it when people point it out, but on my own, it just doesn't enter my mind. The only slashy thing I've ever seen on my own was "You forget your place," "It's right here, between you and Jack!" in PotC. I nearabout fell out of my seat at that one. I still don't want to read any PotC slash, but I can understand where it comes from. :)

10. ...I'd go so far as to say Aragorn is not hot, but then I'm more of a Boromir & Faramir person, myself. I nearly swooned at the extra footage in TTT.

6. I don't think this is an unpopular opinion, really. Most boards I read have people saying the same thing. In retrospect, I like S4 after watching my S1 and S2 DVDs. If I didn't know it was a retcon, the first two seasons look like a perfect setup for S4. And S5 is playing out the consequences of S4, including the mindwipe (or it will, I'm positive of that). Strangely, I'd like to see Angel end this season, since I can't picture Spike continuing on for another year. Plus, after the truth comes out, I can't see the main characters wanting to work with each other ever again. But that's just me.

5. Ditto on slash. Don't get it and don't like it, unless it's meant to be funny. What troubles me is that there are people who adamantly claim that A and B are perfect together and it's Twu Luv, despite the fact they're straight. I saw Spike/Xander slashers at Dragon*Con this year who started arguing violently with people who said they liked Spike/Buffy, or Spike/Dru. Um, people? They aren't gay, so don't take your fantasy fanon world so seriously, all right? That way lies madness.

4. Ohh, RP fic is just wrong, ITA. It's like Mary Sue taken to the next level, since the person writing the story always ends up in there, usually as a romantic interest. I don't care if someone writes it, but for God's sake, don't post it on the internet.

1. I'm the same way about XF--I think it should've ended with the movie, except having Mulder die at the end and Scully continuing on in his place. I don't mind S6 and S7, but I think they shouldn't have killed Buffy off if they knew she was coming back for S6. None of the storylines leading from Buffy's resurrection were any good--Willow's in particular. The first half had so much potential...and then we got Buffy working in a burger joint, Klepto Dawn, Riley's return (ugh), and a wedding that didn't happen. If Dawn had died, it would've been interesting to see if they retained their fake memories of her, or only the real ones.
