It has been all-Olympics, pretty-much-all-the-time here for the last few days! I adore the Winter Olympics and I basically just put it on all day. I just wish we weren't on a tape-delay...blech.

- I loved the Opening Ceremonies. I cried a *lot.* My favorite part was definitely the fiddling/tap dancing section-- only two of my favorite things in the entire universe at the same time! The ballet-in-the-trees was great too. And the whales!!!

- Figure skating is off to a great start! I think the pairs podium turned out perfectly. I had a blast chatting live about it tonight with my CJ girls. (Thank you again for the streaming link, Liz!) Also, our local news is having John Baldwin talk about the pairs competitions which is hilaaaaariously awkward.

- How do the moguls athletes still have knees? I've skied down a fair few mogul runs in my life, and man, I'm just in awe of them. Great results in both of those competitions, too.

- I CANNOT WAIT for skicross. Snowboardcross is amazing already, and skicross better not disappoint!

- Watching the cross-country skiers makes me exhausted.

Other random stuff from the weekend:

- On Saturday I ran my fastest average yet (8:30/mile for 3 miles). This may or may not have had something to do with the Girl Scouts selling cookies that I passed as I ran. (I caught up to them after I finished and bought Tagalongs and Thin Mints, mmmmmm.)

- I was seized with the urge to make candy-- so on Saturday I made both chocolate chip cookie dough truffles and Oreo truffles, then popped over to the Star Trek card tournament and foisted them off on the boys. Verdict: very tasty, but I need serious work on my dipping skills. Maybe next time they won't be so ugly and I'll take pictures. I also made a few Thin Mint truffles using the Oreo method and they were yummmmmm.

- We've started doing some furniture rearrangement in the house. Yesterday we took down most of the posters from the bedroom, just leaving the ones we actually care about. It looks so different! Much more open.

SKATING! SKIING! EEEEE!!!

Also, SNOWBOARDCROSS = LOVE. I can't help it - I like events where you can watch people chase each other down in real time. <3

THIS IS PRETTY MUCH HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT ALL!

I like events where you can watch people chase each other down in real time.

SO MUCH FUN. Short-track is great for that too!

I have also been glued to the TV for the Olympics.

However, I have discovered that there are two things I could care less about: hockey and cross-country skiing.

I don't know. I'll probably perk up more when it's the final for hockey. But the cross-country? Much like watching paint dry.

Today is curling, though. Yeah. This is my kinda sport! :)

As for the moguls skiers? They don't have knees. One of them was up to knee surgery #6. They will be getting bionic knees within five years.

See, I can watch Cross-Country. For a while. Hockey? I can see that any time. Team sports are boring.

The mogul skier who astounded me was the one sking after HE BROKE HIS BACK. To me that is your body saying "Don't do stupid shit like ski mogul, idiot."

I like watching the end of cross-country, that's exciting. Like watching the last minute of a basketball game.

Best pairs podium ever. Although it pretty much didn't matter who won silver and bronze, so long as Shen/Zhao won, I was always going to be content.

...also, I find it hysterical that John Baldwin was talking about the competition. During the competition, my friend and I were like, "SEE, JOHN BALDWIN, EVORA/LADWIG TOTALLY DESERVED THEIR SPOT."

Oh my gosh the John Baldwin thing was so funny. One of the anchors said, after JB was finished his piece, that he had talked to JB off-camera and asked if he would have been watching the pairs competition if he hadn't been asked to comment on it, and JB said he probably wouldn't have. And I'm like dude, he probably doesn't want you spreading that around. Or maybe he does, I don't know, John Baldwin is a weirdo.

I just wanted S/Z to win, and the Russians not to medal. And I got what I wanted. :) I wonder if my powers will work for the men too...

I find I enjoy the cross country skiing. It is one winter sport that I am personally competent at. Before all the development in my neighborhood, Ben and I used to be able to strap our skis on outside the back door and take off for miles.

I too am enjoying the skating and hope the singles competitions are as good as the pairs was.

I've never actually cross-country skied-- what I always think of is when we would go downhill skiing, and then would have to get up a little hill or across the flats to a lift, and how hard that was. Exhaustion just by thinking about it!

I get really anxious watching these Olympics - I'm taking them all so personally... like what's going in Vancouver is reflecting on me as a Canadian or something. But yes - the Olympics are definitely popular viewing in our house too!

Well I think Vancouver's doing a great job! I mean we can't control the weather (yet! mwahahahahaha) so y'know, besides that, they seem pretty awesome.

I figure the moguls skiers have had the tendons in their knees replaced with industrial-strength rubber bands. That's the only explanation I got. Of course I also watch the downhillers thinking "My knees cannot take that." (Of course, my parents, who used to do stuff like ski Sun Valley, have explained to me that my bigger problem would be my technique; ie schussing down the bunny hill and stopping by falling over. Not so much on a super-GS course.) I stick to Nordic, and I can do 10K...just a bit slower. Like twice as long as the people in 30th place.

I am SO HAPPY over pairs. And (since they didn't come anywhere close to threatening Shen and Zhao) I could even learn to like Kavaguti/Smirnov in another four years. (It's really hard to dislike Tamara Moskvina.)

Tonight should be very, very interesting. Will Plushy do the 4-3-3 and just skip all the non-jump elements and win anyway? Can Chan back up his mouth with his skates? Will switching to fake fur to appease the rabid fans throw Johnny completely off his game? Stay tuned...

(Must...make...oreo...balls...look...sooo...good....)

I will cheerfully allow Russians back on the pairs podium for the next Olympics if they develop some competent teams. But I was super happy they didn't get held up this time.

(Oreo balls were sooooooo good...)

Also, my mom said that you're welcome to mail her "To Say Nothing of the Dog" and she'll sign it if you want. Let me know and I can send you her address.

I am jealous that you can run!! :D I am an excellent speed walker and love going up hills, but running (or going downhill for any length) causes my knees and ankles to swell up 2-3 times their normal size. Leg joint FAIL. Watching moguls makes me cringe inside!!!!!

You love going up hills!? Crazy lady! A bummer about your joints though. :( Well, we all do what we can!
