chicklets and princesses

ALISSA! ALISSA!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!! I'm so happy! She's just the most beautiful skater, probably my favorite out there right now, and I felt so bad for her after her implosion at Nationals last year. Best free skate of the night! Bronze medal! Going to Worlds! YEAH!

I'm, er, not terribly clear on how Emily's free skate was better than Kimmie's, but whatever, I don't actually care. Either one of them would've had to completely collapse in order to not get a medal.

I'm sad for Bebe that she didn't skate her best, but proud of her for fighting through it and not giving up.

Oh also! I was very proud of Danielle Kahle for her free skate and her jump up in the standings. I felt bad for her last night after they'd gone on about the "Chicklets" and there were Kimmie and Katy way up there after the short, and poor Danielle sitting in 10th. Now I feel bad for Katy, because ouch, that was a very unhappy program for her.

Okay, now I can get on with my day. The men skate tonight (at a reasonable hour for me, not so much for you East Coast people).

I got to see "my" boys! Scott--oh, Scott, you should have gone for the quad! What did you have to lose? I wanted to hug him. Stephen: I wanted to hug him for a different reason. He's just starting, and I can see in his face he's still mad at himself for not skating perfectly. I knew that first 3a was going to have issues just because of how he's been pounding it in practice, but overall, he did so well for his first trip!

I was thinking of you when they skated! Poor Stephen!

I was SO excited that they showed Derrick Delmore! I saw him skate in an exhibition at home when I was a wee skating girl (okay, I was a young teenager, whatever) and every year I look to see how the hometown boy did. I can't believe this is his last year. :(

Mom said (re Delmore) "He looks like he's having fun." I said "Yeah, he's thinking 'Three more minutes and I can blow this popsicle stand! I can do whatever I want! It doesn't matter! Whee!"

And I now <3 Ryan Bradley. Talking about going for broke. Did you see what he said as he came off--"I don't want to get off!"

I don't remember having seen Delmore before, and now I'm sad I hadn't - he was having such a great time, and he was so much fun to watch. Ah well. The men were the only part of the competition I caught (though I have the recap on the Tivo for sometime soon), and that turned out to have been an *excellent* accident.
