Before I dive into my Obsessively Detailed Recaps, I thought I'd do a costume round-up post from this year's D*C.

The final tally was nine costumes, with three con debuts (Annie, USO Girl, Ravenclaw student). In order of wearing:

1. Wedding Dress
2. Annie, from Community (episodes "A Fistfull of Paintballs" and "For a Few Paintballs More")
3. Hawkgirl, as part of the Renaissance Justice League
4. Captain America USO Girl
5. Elizabeth Swann, POTC plum dress
6. "Gaga" Quinn, from Glee (episode "Theatricality")
7. Ravenclaw student, Harry Potter
8. Penny, The Big Bang Theory
9. Suki (Fire Nation disguise), Avatar: the Last Airbender

Thursday

1. Wedding Dress Night!

[livejournal.com profile] sistersola informed us that Thursday night was for wearing wedding dresses, and [livejournal.com profile] princess_lesa, [livejournal.com profile] amaz0n_princess, and I all rounded up our actual wedding dresses and stuffed them into our luggage. (I added an ivory Pennyblossom for the occasion.) (Also, bonus vampire!Yvette.)

2. Annie, from Community (episodes "A Fistfull of Paintballs" and "For a Few Paintballs More")

I LOVED DOING THIS GROUP SO MUCH. COMMUNITY IS THE BEST EVER.

3. Hawkgirl, as part of the Renaissance Justice League

I DID NOT MAKE MY DRESS. NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. IT IS ALL [livejournal.com profile] aviendiora's GENIUS. WORSHIP HER.

Saturday

4. Captain America USO Girl

I still can't believe how many girls we got. We had 13 for the parade and 28 for the photoshoot that night. The parade was so AWESOME and we looked SO SHARP. Also, I discovered that with 40s makeup and hair, I look eerily like my grandmother when she was my age.

5. Elizabeth Swann, POTC plum dress

[livejournal.com profile] luminousbeing78 hosted an 18th-century cupcake party on Saturday afternoon (yummmm). This being the only 18c thing I own, I threw it on!

kaydee4

Ashlee had comfy pillows under her dress. No, seriously.

6. "Gaga" Quinn, from Glee (episode "Theatricality")

[livejournal.com profile] amaz0n_princess and I put on our Gaga Santana and Quinn costumes from last year for late Saturday night. Here we are with [livejournal.com profile] macbeemer's amazing Jessica Rabbit (and a photobombing [livejournal.com profile] my_belle_)

7. Ravenclaw student, Harry Potter

I couldn't make the Final Battle shoot that morning because of a later costume group, but I came down for some "before" pictures! My robe is borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] aviendiora.

8. Penny, The Big Bang Theory

We were down two members (our Howard and Amy Farrah Fowler were both unable to attend at the last minute and THEY WERE MISSED TERRIBLY) but we still got the group together and met Wil Wheaton!!!

9. Suki (Fire Nation disguise), Avatar: the Last Airbender

SO EXCITED to have a Sokka to take pictures with! And it's even the right version! We solved the height difference with a little creative posing.

I LOVE the Captain America USO Girls group shot! I think it's like my favorite photo out of D*C 2011. Everyone looks so coordinated in the parade and in costume!
I wasn't able to make it for the Final Battle photoshoot either. In fact, I didn't hear about until I saw your previous LJ entry. Either way I was still in L.A. That Ravenclaw school uniform eerily looks so much like my Cho Chang costume. In other words, your friend did an excellent job on being movie accurate with her costume. (It costed me a few hundred dollars just for me to get my costume right, and I even had to make a second robe because the first one didn't match my tie. >_<)
I don't know how you pack several costumes to an out-of-state con and wear them all! The most I ever brought to D*C was 3 and I only wore 2 of them.
Looks like you had an amazing time, and thanks so much for posting up pics!

I know, I can't get enough of looking at the pictures from the USO Girls photoshoot! Especially once they added all the Captain Americas to the shot-- so much red, white, and blue!

My Ravenclaw uniform was assembled as follows (if you're interested):
- Cardigan and tie from Whimsic Alley
- white shirt from Goodwill
- skirt made by me (based mostly on Vera and Alison's instructions)
- robe by Jen ([livejournal.com profile] aviendiora)

I have materials to make my own robe but ran out of time-- I'm trying to do it accurately, without the seam between robe and hood on the colored facing, but it was driving me CRAZY. I'll probably try again this fall, since what else am I going to use the fabric for? :P

I think this may have been a few too many costumes...it was a lot of time in the room changing and I didn't get to wear them all for very long. Big Bang Theory in particular was really short, but since we were missing people, I really wouldn't have felt right going out and about without them. We can always wear them again next year. :)

It was definitely a great time! I know you're less into cons these days but I hope you can make it out to D*C again sometime. :)

Had I known about Whimsic Alley earlier, I would have just purchased my robe from them. It would have saved me the trouble of making one, and they do a great job.
I would say I am less into anime cons these days (the crowd is different and I'm losing interest). I'm sure you noticed veteran anime cosplayers slowly making their their way over to sci-fi/comic conventions. I'm super gung-ho about D*C and will do everything in my power to make it next year! =D
